Bad language, but I know this is how I feel when I see a review less than 70% or so.

The equation above fails to take into account how much the reviewer is getting in compensation/freebies from the distributor :)

You could take the point of view of most individuals on the internet, where every game with the sole exception of 1 or maybe 2 each year is trash. They seem to have great fun being miserable with the games they pay so much money for over and over again. It's a very flexible system that can be extended into the realm of TV shows (money issue aside) and books as well!

But eh, reviews have been hit or miss for me. I think my problem is with the numbers assigned. I like reviews for their description of what sort of stuff I'll encounter (magic system works X way, AI can surprise you by doing Y, gameplay for the devoted fan will last in excess of Z hours) but I try to ignore anything else. It is a system that has worked pretty well for me to date.

A bad review is no guarantee I won't like something. (Although more often than not, I find the reviews had good reason for their ratings.) A good review, on the other hand, in a genre I like, is almost a guarantee I'll enjoy it.

(I should specify, average of reviews, rather than relying on any single review.)
