Vick's initial penalty was harsh and duly so. That's part of my consideration ...

I don't disagree that the initial penalty will be harsh. They'll just be allowed back in the game when the negative press subsides -- just like Vick. And Vick did a ton of damage to his fellow players and the League with his actions. In fact, Vick is the entire reason I have no faith in the League to handle this situation appropriately.

So far, all of the team 'officials' (i.e. coaches, etc...) have admitted some responsibility. The feeling is that this will reduce the penalties.

I seriously doubt that anyone will get a 'permanent' ban.. even a psuedo-permanent one. We are probably looking at a single full season for the most serious offender, and possible a game or two for those on the periphery.

Yeah, it sucks though. What's Supposed To Happen is Peyton comes back and plays out his contract. The revitalized Colts significantly retool their roster and make the playoffs after a two-year absence, and head to Foxborough for the AFC Championship. Manning goes 27 for 28, 350 yards and four touchdowns in the win, with the only incompletion a dump-off to the sideline to avoid a safety blitz, which hits Belichick in the head causing him to explode. The Colts beat the Packers in the Super Bowl, in Eli's house no less. God, appreciating the symmetry of Eli in Lucas Oil followed by Peyton at the Meadowlands, comes down in his winged chariot and flies Manning directly to Canton.

Now, instead we get articles about who has the most cap space, and Peyton has to sign a one-day contract in a few years to retire with a horseshoe on him, after kicking the Colts' *** for a few years.

I don't care who he plays for...I just want him to win the next two Superbowls.

Why the next two? So that Indy doesn't?

Why the next two? Just so the owners can watch him win and not profit from it.

I get it, they had to pay him an *** load of money this year.

That being said, he is a one of a kind player. He should have been able to retire from there if he so desired. No matter the cost, just because of what he has done in the past.

The Holmgren regime has once again failed to demonstrate any sense of urgency for "righting" our franchise. Not to debate whether or not RG3 is worth the price, the fact that they entered the race and lost out for bringing a pellet gun to an artillery fight just reinforces my terrible opinion of the lackadaisical approach they have taken over the past two+ years of stewardship.

The Redskins overpaid. As is normal under the Snyder regime.

Both bits of good news. Manning's not going to SF, and Seattle gets a better QB than T-jerk.

And there is a book being thrown.

What book? Looks like a procedural ruling that'll be appealed and overturned before the season starts. The only person who might get any real punishment is Williams.

A very light book it seems. That is why I said a book was thrown, not THE BOOK, was thrown.

Coaches don't have a formal appeal process in the NFL. Williams will be back next year and so will Payton.

Sorry I wasn't clear, they can't use the NFLPA process through to arbitration. They can go before the board and plead their case though which is why Williams will be back after the year and not permanently banned.

Payton will be there for the first game of this season. The players will likely lose their game time. That's about it.

Looks like they are trying to slip Parcells in as a one year coach.

Parcells is 71, and if he takes the job, he'll likely have to re-start the clock on his Hall of Fame eligibility.

It occurred to me that Jim Tressel (OSU) was guilty of far less at the college level and had to resign.

Very curious to see what stick they use to beat the players involved.
