Let me get this strait... It consumes heat in addition to electricity in order to produce light? So I'd have to make up the difference on my light bill with my gas bill?

I can think of a ton of people that would love to put those all over datacenters.

There are any number of high-heat environments that require lighting. If the lights in question could be heat consumers instead of heat producers, the gain is potentially tremendous.

Not necessarily even high heat. For example, these would make great lights for the inside of a refrigerator as well.

The ability to use ambient heat is huge. I wonder if we are running into problems with entropy.

Anyone read the Phys Rev Lett paper on it yet?

I've got it queued up into my pile to read when I've got some spare time.

Damn. If they can make these things bigger (and suck in more heat) there would be so many applications for it.
