its still possible to travel around the galaxy. Larger ships still can make jumps, just takes fuel and is time consuming unlike the mass effect relays

Yeah but even with FTL drives you're looking at years or decades just in travel time.

Yeah. How far is Rannoch from Earth? Last I checked it was **** on the rim. And with the way the Mass Relays made civilization expand (Hub and Spoke rather than amoebaish) its entirely possible that there's no fuel depots within range.

That'd be an interesting experiment in societal evolution... one chunk of the galaxy (Sol) is completely military oriented, with other parts of the galaxy left without a military force or great scientific minds of any kind for possibly centuries. I wonder if our army would eventually become a new empire similar to the Protheans', just due to sheer strength and the passage of time.

Of course, in my galaxy that would be the case anyway, considering everything is now part of the Na'vi.

The relays do not blow up in Control. Pieces fall apart, but Bioware made it very deliberate to not show them blow up like in Synthesis and Destroy. Also, the Citadel doesn't blow up in Control, either. Plus, Shepard has control of the reapers in this ending. Who built the Mass Relays? Reapers. Shepard can control the Reapers to fix them.

My personal Headcanon:

Spoiler:
“Commander.”
“We did it.”
“Yes. We did. Its... quite a view”
“Best seats in the house.
“God. Feels like years since I just. Sat Down.
“I think you’ve earned the rest.
“Anderson? Stay with me. We’re almost through this.
“You did good kid. You did good. I’m... Proud of you.
“Thank you sir. Anderson?”
Shepard pressed her hand to her side and it came away slicked with blood.
“Shepard? Commander!” Admiral Hackett’s voice held an edge of panic.
“What do you need me to do?” Shepard asked as she attempted to gain her feet.
“Nothing’s happening, the Crucible’s not firing. Its got to be something on your end.”
“I don’t see...” she trailed off as she swam in and out of consciousness.
“Commander Shepard!”
“I’m not sure how to...” Falling face down on the floor, she knew that she was not going to make it.
“Commander!” Hackett screamed, the panic becoming more pronounced. “You have to...” The admiral was cut off sharply.
“I.”

“ASSUMING CONTROL,” a booming voice resonated through Shepard’s head as The Illusive Man’s eyes lit up with the fires of Harbinger. “DO YOU SEE NOW HOW FUTILE YOUR EFFORTS ARE? NOW THAT YOU LAY THERE, BLOODIED AND BROKEN, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE COME SO FAR AND FAILED SO COMPLETELY?”
“You? You were controlling him the entire time.”
“OF COURSE. HE WAS MERELY A PUPPET. NOW WATCH IN DESPAIR AS YOUR PATHETIC EFFORTS FALL BEFORE US LIKE WHEAT BEFORE THE REAPER’S SCYTHE.”
“No, it won’t end here.” Shepard stretched her arm out towards the console, dragging herself slowly towards it, leaving a slick trail of blood behind her.
“YES IT WILL. YOU’RE FINISHED. YOU CAN BARELY MOVE. YOU. HAVE. FAILED.”
Shepard steeled herself at this last thought from Harbinger and slowly got to her knees. “No! I will not!” Staggering to her feet, she reached the console. “Admiral Hackett! Admiral!”
“HE’S GONE. THEY’RE ALL GONE. YOU’VE FAILED. GIVE UP THIS SENSELESS RESISTANCE.”
“Never!” Shepard slammed her hand down on the console, triggering the activation of the Crucible. Immediately the chamber was flooded with energy, suffusing her every cell. Shepard screamed with the agony. It was incandescent, white hot rivulets of energy flowed through her and into the catalyst. Then, for her, all went dark.

Outside, a brilliant white beam was forming at the tip of the Crucible, just as inside, the energy built and built until it was released in one titanic flash. Passing through every reaper in Sol local space, the beam of energy flared out towards the Mass Relay out beyond Pluto. It was gathered in and radiated out towards every relay connected to Charon. For a moment, the Relay flickered and dimmed as the rings slowed almost to a halt after processing the blast. Reaper hulls stuttered and went dark as the energy shot through them. The massive fleet battle was concluded as the reapers went inert. Human and Turian, Quarian and Asari, Volus, Salarian and every other race’s ships opened fire on the motionless carcasses and ripped them to shreds. Without shields, they were simply advanced metallic hulls, easily pierced by the assembled dreadnought forces. As the assembled fleets took their vengeance on the helpless ancient monstrosities, the relay out beyond Pluto sparked back to life, the rings returning to their earlier speed.

Parts blow off, but those explosions aren't the same as you see in the destroy/synth videos.

Right. Watch the others and the relays totally blow up. In control, they don't.

Either way, they ain't working anymore.

And probably won't ever again. They're still *destroyed*, it may just not be as total. And with noone that knows how to rebuild them... yeah, I doubt they'll be rebuilt.

There's a difference between rebuilding/repairing and recreating. It's totally believable that they would eventually be functional again.

Reapers know how. And you now control the reapers.

EDIT:

Even the protheans were able to reverse engineer a mass relay.

If it was a couple of panels coming off? Yeah, maybe. As far as the video looks, they're blown up. At that point, you're starting from scratch pretty much. It may not be as bad as the other 2 endings... but its still bad enough.

There is a very compelling theory floating around the net, that I'm very inclined to believe.

It basically says that everything after the screen goes white from the big blast that Harbinger fires is a hallucination, and the Reapers attempt to indoctrinate Shepard. It actually kinda makes sense.

Think about this:
-No one else ever actually sees the child. And when Shepard finally catches the child in the dream sequence, they are both engulfed in flames. As in, going with the Reapers will result in Shepards destruction.
-The child refers to the Reapers as 'us.' He says, "I know you thought about destroying us." And "Do you think you can control us?"
-The fact that the child says the Destruction ending will kill Shepard because he is part synthetic is meant to make you hesitant to choose that option. And the fact that you can still survive after that proves that the god-child is wrong.
-How much time has Shepard spent around Reapers now? Sovereign, the Human Reaper, 2 Reaper destroyers, and the Rho/Arrival artifact. It's very easy to think that he's had at least some level of indoctrination.
-The Control ending/beam is Blue (Paragon) making it appear to be the better choice, while the Destroy ending/beam is Red (Renegade) to supposedly make you think, it's bad. If the Reapers are influencing you, then that is exactly what they would want you to believe.
-When Shepard 'awakes' in the super secret over 9000 ending, it looks like he/she is awaking in the rubble on Earth, as in the battlefield in London. Why would he be there if he blew up with the Citadel?
-By 'destroying the reapers' Shepard is actually breaking the Reapers hold on his mind, and awakes to the moments right after Harbinger's death beam.

Anyway, just a few things to think about, and I'm sure there is more.

That's actually not a bad idea. I was starting to wonder about Shepard being indoctrinated, myself. But, I don't know, does the indoctrination actually make you hallucinate like that? I suppose that wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Don't forget, Cerberus rebuilt him from scratch, and we know that The Illusive Man had access to Reaper tech. Who's to say that he didn't use reaper tech to rebuild Shepard, which would make him more susceptible to indoctrination.

He was out cold near object rho for 2 whole days in Arrival. I was actually kind of surprised the indoctrination thing never came up with Shepard. The only problem is that the prothean AI from Thessia that helped them out with the Crucible could detect indoctrination(it could with the Illusive Man and Kai Leng) but it never detected any in Shepard.

Caleria, that's a very cool idea.

However, if it's true, then one has to ask "Hey, Bioware, why the **** didn't you publish a complete game here? I thought this was supposed to be the conclusion?"

YOU posted the statement from EA/Bioware that the story was not over and that you'd have to buy DLC to finish it, Taly.

Liara T'soni's voice speaks softly in the darkness. "Assume this, *******."

Liara kneels at Shepard's side, administering a strong does of medi-gel from her omni-tool, and helps Shepard to her feet. No words need to be said, the look between them is everything. I don't know anything about the Mass Effect series, so I'm just going to leave this here:

I don't like the indoctrination line because it's an easy and cheap way into justifying the extermination of EDI and the Geth.. but then, I was prepared to sacrifice everything for victory, so I am content with how it ended.
