No, No, I can see that possibly.

Hah, haven't watched this all season, and last night, randomly flipping channels around midnight, I come across this and catch literally the last minute. Didn't even dawn on me who the walking dead guy was, at first, then I figured it out.

I have some catching up to do.

Just watched the finale, and I have a few comments...

Spoiler:
Why the heck did Jimmy stop the RV, get out of the seat, go over to the door, and then scream helplessly as they tore through the door and ate him alive? All he had to do was stop long enough for them to jump on the top of the RV, and then take off somewhere safe enough for them to climb down and get in. He was too stupid to live I guess.

Is Lori seriously pissed at Rick for killing Shane? Seriously? She's the one that told Rick he was dangerous. He led Rick into the woods to freaking kill him. Is she retarded?

Wth was that weird ninja character with the zombies on chains? Why weren't the zombies trying to eat him?

What the heck was that fort thing? Is that where Randall's people are living? Or is this some new group?

Spoiler:
Jimmy - stupid way to do it but it was time for him to go, he didn't add much to the show anyway

Lori - she has lived way longer than she should in the show, and yes she is mentally defective

Michonne - Chick with the sword, she is a pretty big character in the comic, who knows how the show will screw her up, the zombies with her were her boyfriend and his best friend. She choped their arms off and their lower jaws (although it looked like they had tape on their mouths in the show, guess it would be hard to show the lower jaw thing) so they don't attack her and they serve as a deterrent for other zombies.

Prison- That is the fortified looking thing you saw, they should have been there a while ago, hopefully they don't drag it out too long getting there when it starts back up.

Killuas, my speculation wasn't really a call for spoilers from external sources. In the GoT thread, if you wondered what would happen to Arya in the 2nd season, and I blurted out the answer (which I know from reading the books) I'm not sure you'd appreciate it.

Just saying...

Guess I misunderstood the point of a spoiler tag then. Don't worry I won't post anything else you guys enjoy.

You can get all defensive about my comment if you want to, but think about it. Yes, there is a spoiler tag. But what would a reasonable person expect to be contained within the spoiler tag? Details about the recently aired episode. Since I had seen it, I wasn't expecting any spoilers for me.

In this context, all you have to do is indicate that there are spoilers from the graphic novels that include as yet unaired plot details.

Also stop using double spaces after punctuation, this isn't 1983 ;)

Hopwin, don't be intentionally dense. If I posted a spoiler to the last Wheel of Time book in this thread, and put it behind a spoiler tag, would I be in the clear? After all, I put it in a spoiler tag. All I'm asking is for is to provide an indication if the spoiler tag is for outside info, since in this case the spoiler tag is ambiguous.

And regarding the spacing thing, sorry, I never got the memo. I was taught in school that 2 spaces was the only correct way, and never knew this had changed until you mentioned it and I looked it up. Learn something new every day.

I would expect any information contained in a spoiler tag to reveal something I don't know and thus, "spoil" the surprise. Last I checked there was no timeframe limiting it to the prior week's episode. If there was a thread titled: WoT and I was reading through book one and you posted the ending to the entire series behind a spoiler-tag it would be my own fault for not taking your spoiler-tag seriously enough.

That's why I am against using spoiler-tags for series/books/games in mid-run. If you want to discuss the show to the point where you are reading threads about it then be up to date enough that anyone posting in the thread does not need to use spoiler tags for the entire conversation. In this way the tag can be used to contain true bomb-shells like Killuas dropped above. Reading through this thread the entire thing is hidden behind spoiler-tags, same with the Mass Effect thread which had to be split off so that conversations could be had about the ending/quests/etc.

Yeah, it is a throwback to the days of typewriters. No biggie on a board (just needling you a little bit, sorry :D) but in emails and blog posts at work it drives me crazy ;)

It hasn't changed; all academic style formats still require double sentence spacing after terminal punctuation for manuscripts. As for the actual typesetting: none of us are setting type. Likewise, my various editors for non-academic work have all specified fixed-width fonts and double sentence spacing for drafts and manuscripts.

Given modern Kerning rules on word processing software, don't most commercial word processors do this automatically? (Its not like a space is a fixed width anymore)

Like I said, if you're in the business of submitting manuscripts to editors, academic and non-academic alike, the standard is still fixed with fonts with double sentence spacing. In fact, I'd suggest that the increasing acceptance of poorly formatted and standardized manuscripts is part of the problem with publication and print media today. Readability standards that effectively amount to, "Do whatever you think looks good." are not effective. Of course, I'm really not sure why you'd say anything about double sentence spacing on the internet, when HTML doesn't allow for double sentence spacing anyway ...

You're both right.

Riov in the sense that 99% of the world doesn't need to or care about double spacing anymore, because it's a legacy issue with monospaced type.

Khross in the sense that the manuscript world is the elite 1%, as far as monospaced type is concerned.

A method with which to give them room to edit. 'scripts certainly aren't typed in monospace fonts for legibility.

There's absolutely no rational reason to continue with a double-space at the end of sentences. It's a holdover that should be purged from the "rulebooks." Modern word processing has completely done away with the need for it.

You can have my Oxford comma, however, when you pry it from my cold, dead, and rigid fingers.

If we want to say that comments about the just aired episode don't need spoiler tags, that is fine with me. I'm just following the existing precedent in this thread. As the thread currently is, however, a spoiler tag is going to be assumed to be related to the most recent episode of the TV series. A spoiler for those who haven't seen the episode yet.
