Corolinth: Your orcs should probably be matriarchal.
They're very tribal, and the women run ****. Men are hunters and warriors.
Perhaps orc women mate with so many men that orc children don't actually know who their fathers are.
Actually, your orcs should probably be like the krogan in that respect. The men inhabit a separate camp from the women and children. Orc mothers might know who the father of their children is, while the orc men try to guess.
Such a dynamic might lead to all of the orc men interacting with as many children as possible, under the auspices that any of them might be my child.
So that the mightiest warriors of the orc tribe don't neglect any of the children in favor of the others.
Suppose instead of orc men going to visit the women camp, like krogan did, perhaps the women and children go to visit the men's camp?
It's a real big deal for the orc children. The men are all so big.
They're all hunters and warriors, after all.
me: hmm. I think they're more cowboys.
Corolinth: That still works.
me: they are having troubles with little native halfling braves
Corolinth: You've got your women and children settlements, which resembles a normal city society.
Then you've got your men's camp, which is the cattle ranch.
It's like being in an entirely different world.
me: I want the biggest, baddest orc in the world to be John Wayne. (not the name, obviously.)
Corolinth: A bull might get loose and go crashing through the streets of mantown - which absolutely nothing at all like what would happen in the towns where the children are raised.
Then it gets caught by the horns and wrestled back into the corral by this big, 7' orc.
Then three children get into a fistfight over who's dad is that big orc that wrestled the bull.
Orcs in orc society should be rowdy.
me: If the orc women are going to be somewhat dominant, they need to be badass and rowdy too.
hmm.
Corolinth: I think they're smaller. Significantly so.
Like the difference between a male and female lion.
Not that the female lion isn't big.
Just that the male lion is huge.
me: since the male orcs are all off on cattle ranches (and robbing cattle ranches) and fighting off halflings...and the females ran the towns...what if the law enforcement were usually females?
Corolinth: Orc women are administrators, though. They're manager types.
me: The sherif in these parts, the marshalls, everything.
Corolinth: Yes.
That works.
And orc law enforcement never have any problems.
Because nobody wants them to have to call some of the men away from fighting off halflings.
Sort of that, "Don't make me tell your father," logic.
Because that just means you're getting two ass-whoopings.
Female law enforcement are always the ones bringing in criminals.
In the dire emergency where men have to be called back to enforce the law, someone always dies.
me: hmm.
Corolinth: For example
me: I want cowboys without firearms.
Corolinth: Sheriff Jessy always gets her orc.
me: 6-shooter light crossbows with triggers so hard to squeeze because they use them to power the draw of the semi-automatic crossbow (+strength to damage like with composite bows).
Corolinth: Then, one day, Sheriff Jessy gets bushwhacked by a gang of bandits.
me: with a revolving ammunition thingie
Corolinth: The men put together a posse, and ride, leaving a trail of blood across the orcish frontier.
Corolinth: I think the orc women maintain control by being people's mothers.
me: they're jamaicans?
Corolinth: You do not talk back to orc women. And heaven **** forbid you hit one.
Half a dozen seven-foot tall orc boys are her babies.
Corolinth: Mother's Day is the annual high holiday.
me: this idea of orcs who love their mommies is becoming awesome.
Corolinth: Orc boys love their momma.
They want to be like the great big hulking brutes at the dude ranch.
But they love their momma.
And what sort of virtue do you suppose gets instilled on little orc children when a 7' 400lb orc warrior hulks out and smashes a barn because someone insulted his mother?
Orc women are probably very fertile, too.
Six to ten kids is probably the norm
So maybe there aren't anywhere near as many orc women as men.
