I advocate the iPhone, as it's far and away the best phone I've ever used.

So yeah, my wife needs a cell phone. I have next to no experience in this area.
Requirements:
Something with a phone Check. -FS
Something that can hold and play music Check. -FS
Something that can take decent pictures Check. The camera on the 4S is particularly spectacular. -FS
Nice-to-haves:
Internet connectivity would be a plus Check. The 4S gets about 3x the speed of the 4, for what that matters to you. -FS
Something that can connect to our car stereo via bluetooth would be a plus Check. -FS
I have the following perceptions, right or wrong:
If we go with an Apple product, we have to pay money for every song we load on the thing (so ripping existing CDs to MP3 is out) Patently untrue. Any music of any kind can be ripped (CD) or downloaded (iTunes, Amazon MP3, etc.) and loaded onto an iPhone, no jailbreaking or other tomfoolery required. Just import it into iTunes and hit 'sync.' -FS
We have to sign some kind of expensive contract Any smartphone is going to require a data plan and a two-year contract. The iPhone is not any different in this regard. You can get the iPhone on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint now. -FS
My questions are:
What phone? iPhone. -FS
How much is it going to cost? You can get an iPhone 3GS for free with contract, an iPhone 4 for $100, and an iPhone 4S for $200. -FS
