Over all I thought last night's episode was excellent. Especially the Iron Islands part. Alfie Allen is killing it as Theon this season. I do have certain issues with the way they cut Arya's story, but I knew they would have to do it and I can't come up with a better way. There just wouldn't be a reason that Amory Lorch or the rest of the soldiers would still be going after Gendry.

Also, I didn't much like the Sansa - Shea scene. I'm not a big fan of TV Shea in general.

But these are minor quibbles. The episode was one of the better ones so far.

Episode was awesome, but I didn't like Shae being paired with Sansa. I was also really disappointed that they omitted the line from Catelyn to Brienne about not having to call Renly a king. That's a cold line. I wanted to hear it :(

I enjoyed episode 3. I hate watching it week to week though as I wanted to see the next episode immediately and couldn't.

So what did people think of shadow baby? I thought it looked more smoky than shadowy, but it was still freaky.

Is that is what it is called? I called it a Vagina Demon right away...hehe.

That being said, I didn't read the books.

It's not really called anything, formally. In the books, without pulling out A Clash of Kings, it's probably referred to as "a nightmare of shadow and sorcery" or somesuch.

Ep 4-5 thoughts:

Joffrey / Theon = ****.

Upset that they completely cut out the characters that tell Bran about the green dreams and that the sea is coming to Winterfell.

Where the **** is Mormont's raven? That damn thing could add a lot of creepiness to the fact that they're walking around North of the wall.

The Qarth women took on a wardrobe change I don't approve of. For those that haven't read the books, the women's fashion in Qarth deems it chic to expose one titty at all times.

Spoilers for, I think it's A Feast for Crows:
Spoiler:
I'm really rather baffled by this. Without the Reeds, splitting up Bran and Rickon to send Rickon East and Bran North seems.. implausible. If Osha is subsuming the Reeds' role, she can't be Rickon's guardian/escort, because she has to stay close to Bran.

This upsets me, because it pretty much indicates to me that sending Bran to where we find out he's probably ended up (in A Dance with Dragons) has no significant plot relevance. Way to kill your own storyline before you've finished it, GRRM.

Sorry, can't read/reply since I'm not past Clash of Kings, yet. If it's about those characters being important down the line, I wondered that myself (not knowing anything) and ended up figuring that the show will just introduce them down the line when they have some "free" time. Likely during seasons 3, since they'll be splitting the third book into two seasons.

They seem like easy characters to introduce at any time and have Bran trust them, because no one else (in my reading, so far) has any knowledge or experience with the green dreams.

Well.. it seems problematic to introduce them down the line, in my estimation. We'll leave it at that.

It's not that problematic to introduce them later. Whether they will or not is another question.

I'm more puzzled by how they are going to get around not having Ramsay in season 2.

I'm really perplexed at why they made so many random additions this episode.

I'm okay with the tension-building of Arya trying to avoid being noticed -- it adds some interest to her story in an episode where you want to touch on her time in Harrenhal but nothing big happens... but why play it like Baelish thinks he saw something worth noting? And what was the deal with adding the time pressure to kill Lorch?

And the theft of dragons? Really? You've already seriously cut down the size of Daenarys' useless-women-and-old-people retinue because it's expensive to film hundreds of extras all the time, and now you've killed off like ten of the dozen people you've been showing? To add something that didn't happen? I mean, my assumption is that this is going to be used as a hook to get her into the warlocks' place, but.. curiousity works just as well.

I'm glad I'm finding myself liking Ygritte, though. Still perplexed at why we're having Jon get separated from the others.

Littlefinger seeing Arya just adds tension. As far as having the time component with killing Amory Lorch, it is the perfect way to explain why she doesn't use her death wish on someone more important like Jeffrey or Tywin. I was wondering how they were going to do that without the internal dialog. I'm curious who is going to take over Harrenhall when Tywin leaves now though, since Lorch is dead.

I'm reserving judgement on Jon getting separated from Halfhand and Dany's dragons being stolen. We'll see where they are going with it.

See, if Arya had avoided notice, but worried about it (which the actress did a great job with, by the way), it would have added tension. Now we're going to openly question Littlefinger's motives and loyalty when he gets back to court and everybody's still lamenting over Arya's death/loss and how screwed it leaves them.

Fair enough on Lorch, though. The real reason, though, is that she's childish and short-sighted, still. Because, you know, she's a child. Wishing she had thought her choices through better is one of her big regrets, later as she matures. Lorch doesn't count, now, because the immediacy of her discovery makes it a valid choice.

Dany's dragons getting stolen is just stupid IMO. It's bullshit, artificial, unnecessary drama. I don't even know what they're setting up. It looked to me like the dragon thief was walking up to a tower, perhaps the mage tower, which makes even less sense if you know what's supposed to happen in the books (Dany meeting with Pyat Pree voluntarily). Edit - I guess I can see where this is going, but it's just stupid that they've changed the circumstances so much.

Making a TV show based on an established series seems to be the easiest thing on the planet. Script is already written well into the future, all you need to do is put it on a screen. How do directors always manage to **** something up???

The Jon Snow part of the episode was stupid, too, but that was poorly written in the book as well. I would have preferred him just bellyaching and letting her go versus the stupid dick-grinding, though.

Kaffis, I don't get your concern regarding Littlefinger. The audience is supposed to question his motives. It is completely in line with his character to know about Arya and conceal the information for reasons of his own.

Lenas, as I said, I'm reserving judgement on the dragon theft until we see how it plays out. As far as Jon is concerned, I thought the "dick grinding" scene was hilarious and perfectly in character for both of them.

And can we all at least agree that the Winterfell scene was incredible? The scene between Theon and Bran, the beheading scene. Alfie Allen just absolutely killed it.
