Ok dumb question. How does one pause to micro manage combat on the 360, or does one? I am doing fine, but I tend to let the tactics handle party members' action and concentrate on my main. So far I pause combat by pulling up the wheel, but that doesn't let me cycle through the party and assign targets.

Sorry, Ranelagh. I'm not on the 360 version, so I'm not sure how to pause it. On PC, it auto-pauses when enemies are sighted. Otherwise, you just hit Spacebar to pause/un-pause at any time.

In other news, Bioware has released an UN-official Dexterity hotfix. This fixes a technical issue with dagger dmg not scaling correctly with dexterity. Daggers were incorrectly using 100% str for dmg, instead of the correct 50/50 str and dex. This is now fixed.

The big change, though, is that this fix also makes a lot of really nice changes to archery. I've been using it for a bit, and it has made my rogue archer much more viable. Be warned, though, that this fix also makes enemy archers much more effective, as well.

Link here

Quote:
Experimental hot fix for the following issues:

-Daggers now get the shared damage bonus from Dexterity and Strength as intended, not just Strength alone.

-Ranged Weapon hit rate increased.
-Bow range has been increased by 10m on all ranged weapons (not staff), reducing the penalties for ranged shots in most most combat scenarios.
-All bows and crossbows now grant a +5 inherit Attack bonus. Note that this bonus is shown on the weapon, it does not factor into the characters Attack displayed score on the character sheet.

-Short bow being useless.
-Short bows now get full attribute bonus from Dexterity instead of shared from Strength. This makes them a natural choice for Dexterity focused character builds.
-Base Armor Penetration for Shortbows has been increased by 1.

-Ranged weapon damage has been increased:
-Damage range on all ranged weapons has been increase from 150% to 160%.
-Critical chance bonus on all ranged weapons has been increased by 4%.
-Damage bonus from attributes has been increased from 100% to 100/105% for bows and 110% for crossbows.

now if they only made Lethality work like the first Arcane Warrior talent, rogues would be sitting fairly pretty.

Yea, Arcane Warrior looks awesome. I "unlocked" it last nite, so I'm thinking I'll roll a mage next playthrough and try it out. It looks amazingly good.

As far as equipment for rogues, I believe you only need 20 Strength to use the highest (Tier 7) light armors. That's only a 10 point investment, so it's not too bad. The problem is, that if you take Lethality, it only applies your Cunning score to your dmg roll. Your attack roll is still 50/50 Strength and Dex. So unless you want your hit rating to suffer, you still have to pump Str. Which completely defeats the purpose of taking Lethality in the first place. They should make it apply to your attack and dmg rolls.

Well, I pumped my dex stupidly high and I still had a good hit rate. You really don't have to pump both up because the hit rate will be taken care of by the dex and since rogues are most likely already pumping cunning for other rogue related abilities, you'll get a bigger damage boost. The only reason to pump str is to equip armor and weapons. The worst part is, if you want to equip normal long swords, you will have to pump str making lethality not as good(still gives a crit bonus and unlocks Evasion), but with the unofficial patch, daggers should remain worth while during end game.

Set left trigger to toggle and you can set one order per pause. A little awkward, but workable.

Is there somewhere you can go and tell which specializations you have unlocked? I was looking all around in options etc. and couldn't find anything.

At the level up screen. It will show which ones you have unlocked for whatever class you are leveling.

I finished this game, which means it's better than Mass Effect; however, I feel it is not nearly as good as the reviews say.

Amazon matched Best Buy's Black Friday price of $35, so I snatched this up for Phe and myself. Should arrive tomorrow. Yay!

So I borrowed this game for PS3 to try it out. Started an Elf Magi. Anything I need to know to start with?

Couldn't tell ya. I started an Elf Magi last night as well, but the controller was quickly stolen by the Phe in order to make her own character and play (until 2am!). I managed to retain control of it long enough to kill the Demon in the Harrowing, and that was about it. Oh, and some friend of mine angsted at me when I woke up from my life-and-death struggle.

Mages. Pfah!

Early game spoilers contained for FarSky & Taly's benefit.
Spoiler:
Though, I hope I find some other mage so I can drop Morrigan, who's bound to hate my good nature in short order because this is an RPG with sidequests and I, gasp, occasionally agree to help out of the goodness of my heart.

It's awesome how my character looks just like a redheaded Anya Jenkins from Buffy. The downside is I am constantly looking for the most inappropriate conversation option in any situation just to be consistant with Anya's character.

I'm about 20 hours in myself, and rather well liking the game. There are some odd things here and there that are kinda frustrating as to why they designed it that way, and the difficulty of the game seems terribly unbalanced from one point to another, but I'm definitely hooked. :p

My problem with the responses it not being able to tell when they're sarcastic or not. :( Trying to play a Dwarf noble rogue character that is similar to one captain Malcolm Reynolds (though in my defense I was playing this char type since Morrowind released, before I watched Firefly!) so it's pretty important to understand sarcasm in responses!

edit: Inventory issues drive me insane! I spend more time deciding what to destroy than doing anything else in this game. :( I am not understanding how stuff works I guess. I think it comes from me deciding to save consumables for when I need them. Apparently you have to just keep using them to keep enough inventory space to loot stuff? Or is it by design that you can't loot everything in a dungeon clear? Either way it's pretty frustrating for me. :(

Play a Rogue if you're a side questing fanatic.

Play a Rogue if you want the most moral options possible in every circumstance.

Play a Rogue if you want to be the most lethal guy on the field for boss fights.

Play a Warrior (Sword and Board) if you want to be evil. You need to leave the Andastrens out of your party for this.

Play a Mage if you want to be an AOE and Crowd Control Monster.

That said, actual game play favors a Rogue for most boss encounters and side questing. It favors a Mage for non-boss encounters and situations.

The rest of the pages delve into the game, too.

That was my snarky way of making fun of the outdated thread title.

Oh, I figured you just didn't read it since you're not playing it.

I poke my head into almost all threads at least every so often... it's my job as a mod.

Would that be a ModJob? Or JobMod?

A Modjob sounds like something you might pay for in less reputable parts of Denerim. (and it's on topic, bam!) :)

I can never avoid spoilers.

There is another mage who can eventually join you, but i don't need more mages. :)

So far, Leliana and Alistair are adorable. The mutt is not bad. Morrigan needs to die in a fire.

But that would probably just make her angry.

(I do like her mother, Captain Janeway.)

The game suffers in the moral ambiguity department. Upon reviewing certain options and consequences, I find that it is ham fisted and lacks the subtlety necessary to achieve the ends they claim. Also, 3 Mages is the best combination for dealing with most of the combat.
