Interesting, I find myself creating the dialogue in Bethesda games. By not confining me or the characters to a script I am able to write my own story in the world at large.

Skyrim is the only Bethesda game I've played where the game system itself did not get in the way of enjoying the experience. That said, if you're playing a Bethesda game for its writing, you're done with the game.

This is the best thing about Skyrim. (Not that I don't like Bioware-style too) but "depth" in that sense is very limited. There's only as much depth as they had time and space to write script for. With Skyrim, you create your own depth; the conversations are what you imagine them to be.

As for the guild quests, I think they're pretty much fine. I ahven't tried them all, but they're as "epic" as the need to be. In fact, less "epic" is better. I don't need (or even really want) the side quests to be all that epic.

Yeah, no. If I wanted to imagine the personalities and conversations in my head, I could do so without the video game. That's why I'm playing the video game.

I am with Khross on this, the Thieves Guild quest from Oblivion was amazing and I was more than a little disappointed with all the Guild quests in Skyrim. Oh well, more script for me :)

The Thieves Guild chain in Oblivion is the only reason I did not return that title; and it is, to date, the only arc in any Bethesda game that actually had stellar writing. The Thieves Guild chain in Skyrim is good; it's very solid and requires you to earn it. The rest of the Guilds just try to hand you Godhood on a silver platter.

If I had to do that, I'd ahve to imagine everything else too, and that doesn't work.

Skyrim and Bio games are different types of RPGs. ME and DA are about the story, while Elder Scrolls are more about exploration. I really don't give a **** about all these people's problems. A different kind of narrative would be required.

That said, I put double the amount of hours into Dark Souls this year. Skyrim, while very pretty and polished, is only polish and the combat is very simple. Once I got to the higher levels where I become godlike I lost all interest. I had a lot of fun up until that point though.

I had plenty of fun with Skyrim. I played a little over 400 hours of Skyrim. I never finished most of the quests or even the main story. The Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests were either fun (Thieves Guild) or functional (DB for Gloves).

I downloaded a mod so it changed the Nightingale gloves to have the Dark Brotherhood enchant. Because the DB armor looks like balls and the Nightingale armor looks awesome.

Troll trolling is the ancient art of, well...rolling trolls. They have a very conducive shape for this compared to the other denizens of Skyrim, on top of which they conveniently tend to inhabit mountains.

  1. Find an ice troll up on a mountain side.
  2. Make said ice troll chase you down hill.
  3. Paralze and/or ice form shout the troll.
  4. Gravity!

If you time it right, their momentum will carry them a very long way before the spell/shout wears off. Bonus points if it hits a critter or NPC on the way down. Then you have troll bowling.

And then sometimes this happens.

Oh, Skyrim physics -- you so crazy!

Fake edit:

Also works well with bears.

Never see physics break like that on Xbox. I thought it was fun to set citizens on fire with the first level fire spell, it doesn't hurt enough to aggro them but it prompts funny dialogue.

Latest patch for Skyrim on the 360 apparently now includes Kinect tie ins.

You can actually say your various shouts without reverting to a menu from the demo I saw. have not tried it yet.

I now want both Skyrim and a Kinect.

I would use followers if they weren't generic NPCs with no personalities. Bethesda is pretty bad about it because Fallout 3 followers sucked(except Fawkes. He was cool). Thankfully the girl that made Willow for New Vegas is making a companion for Skyrim. That should be good.

I thought they had quite distinctive personalities. They just didn't endlessly babble on about them. They're also exceedingly useful; especially the heavy fighters. They do a fantastic job of keeping enemies tied up when you have more than one to face. Fighting multiple enemies has always been the hardest thing in TES games.

At least until you get to a level where you can two hit kill anything :D

Anyone have any news on when the DLC drops for this?
