My brother-in-law grew up in the Phillipines, one time they went on vacation for a week and when they came back they found out their neighbor had eaten their dog because he "thought they just moved away" despite cousins coming and feeding the dog and checking on the house.

No more odd than how most of our places raise chickens or cows.

Don't eat someone else's property but aside from that - don't care.
