Hopwin,

I'm hanging my hope on Weeden's ability to throw the ball. Perhaps with a good quarterback, the Browns receiver corps will come up to average.

First of all, it's impossible to accurately grade a draft until year three of that draft's player development. That's when you know what you have. Until then you're just eating unripened fruit and complaining that it's bitter.

Second of all, you just blew up your entire offense. You are officially in a three year rebuilding cycle, and it's impossible to make all of the well planted additions needed in one off-season. That's an unreasonable expectation .

Third, in reference to your WR situation I will direct you to my first point. Cleveland is young and talented on the outside.

We led the NFL in drops again. Greg Little has shown flashes of being a solid number 2. Mohammed Massoquoi has been a bust, Josh Cribbs is literally not a wide receiver, Jordan Norwood is undersized and a bit too slow. Who am I overlooking? The only guy entering his second year is Little, the rest have had 2+ years to ripen or ferment as the case may be.

Massaquois had developed into a solid option as a #2 wideout.

Little projects as a legitimate #1 stud.

Cribbs is an excellent situational slot receiver.

The sky is not falling. You blew up your offense and then aquired BPA at your positions of greatest need. I think the Weeden pick was a reach based on his age, but I'm not horrified by it. You are two years away from being competitive.

Not sure where you are coming from, but as a season-ticket holder who sat through every game we played back year the following stats don't indicate we have any wide-receivers on the roster current:

MoMass:
G GS Rec Yds Avg Lng TD Att Yds Avg TD
2011 Cleveland Browns 14 13 31 384 12.4 2
2010 Cleveland Browns 15 14 36 483 13.4 2
2009 Cleveland Browns 16 11 34 624 18.4 3

Little:
2011 Cleveland Browns 16 12 61 709 11.6 2

Cribbs:
2011 Cleveland Browns 16 7 41 518 12.6 4

It is even more disheartening if you go back game by game and check how many receptions and TDs were obtained in garbage time, or as my section called it: McCoy's magic 2 minutes.

Stats are only relevant in fantasy sports. Your offense was awful, and it had nothing to do with your wideouts.

QFT.

The Browns had absolutely no running attack last season, giving defenses the ability to press receivers hard. In addition, they had an quarterback that can't throw the deep ball. Defenses only had to defend about 40 yards of the field at a time, any NFL defense can do that.

I'm happy enough with the 49ers picks. Like has already been said, draft picks are a long road issue. You keep building the team through hard work, practice, and better play creation. Work the new kids in as they show their stuff.

You also forgot we ran the most vanilla version of the West Coast Offense since Bill Walsh scratched it out on a napkin. I agree with both of your other two counts, however, you failed to note that none of our receivers have any ability to gain separation either due to a lack of speed or due to the predictability of our routes. So now with the addition of Richardson, they can simply stack the box and single cover our WRs because there is no one out there to draw any respect, let alone double coverage. We saw this many times when Hillis was healthy enough to play last year.

Of course the offense was vanilla. They had what, three weeks to install it before starting the preseason? I agree that the receivers are nothing spectacular. I'm just trying to see something positive in Berea.

That Little and Mass increase their production by 30% in catches, yardage, and scores.

Prediction, RG III will be more like Vick than Newton. Flashes of brillance but brittle as 100 year old paper. I didn't understand their drafting of Cousins at first but now I do.

And to add, the Browns WR core as a whole suck big time...has very little to do with their offense, they just aren't that great. Little will be good but other than that, bleh. Cribbs is as good a WR as Hester is which is to say, not very. As return men, two of the best.

I think it's going to be hard for the Redskins to justify starting RG3 over Kirk Cousins. I think Cousins is probably going to be a better all around Quarterback than Griffin.

I entirely disagree with RG3 being like Vick. I remember seeing Vick's speed and being wowed by how quickly he could run past guys. RG3 is just a more versatile guy based on what I saw. He also is more pass-oriented than Vick ever was. He just has the ability to move well in addition. I wouldn't be shocked to see RG3 have a better beginning of his career than Andrew Luck quite frankly. RG3 has a team ready to go, whereas Luck will have to rebuild his team from scratch. I think the two may eventually level out and Luck will probably surpass him at some point.

The Browns have good building pieces and I think Weeden could be the Rothlisberger of this year's draft. Underestimated because of his age, but a solid NFL quarterback who will find ways to win. I think his age will be a strength for the Browns that have struggled with mediocre, young quarterbacks for far too long.

As for the draft, I'm thrilled with the Patriots draft choices. As in, I wouldn't be shocked to see this team go 16-0 again. They were a good defense from that and a Super Bowl victory. Their defense is built the way it used to be built, on smart players who have some good athletic traits (but maybe not overwhelming in every category) and hustle in them. In addition, many of them are leaders. I'm thrilled about Dont'a Hightower though. He's going to be the Tedy Bruschi of that defense again. And then not only did they revive the defense through the draft, but then they upgrade the receiving corp with a bunch of guys, highlighted by Brandon Lloyd. Their only possible weakness is their running back situation and the 2007 Patriots weren't exactly strong there either. Of course, Ridley looked great last season and Vereen is an excellent backup with Woodhead being the change of pace back. I think the backs could be strengths for Brady by the end of the season.
