OK, that macho dragon mod is amazing. Now they need a "random wrestler" mod, where each type of dragon is a different wrestler. "GONNA GET YOU BROTHER!"

I installed the horse whistle mod this evening and discovered that I could summon my horse into Whiterun. So I made a scratch save and started dicking around: running over pedestrians at full gallop, etc. This eventually escalates into me repeatedly stabbing Provincus what-his-face a few dozen times until he finally realizes HOLY **** I'M BEING STABBED!

Faendal flips out and decides to be the first to try to murder me. So I dive over the end of the balcony, rush past the solitary guard, out the door and leap on my waiting steed. A mad gallop through the streets later and I break through to the main gates. I have to dismount to use the gate.

Allie does not come with. Well, that wasn't unexpected. Plan B. I race to the top of the ramparts, dive over the side and give another whistle. Clippity-cloppity-clip. Pbbbppbpbt. Let's cheese it, horse! Off we go, in a daring daylight escape.

Besides my whopping 40 bounty for which the guards will not accept my surrender, there's only one problem. I think I may have broken Allie:

Image

Um...you okay there, buddy?

She's been like this for about 10 minutes now.... Oops.

There's some nice graphical enhancements, too. I just can't remember what they were called (and don't have the game anymore.)

It’s happening - Elder Srolls V: Skyrim is getting DLC! Thanks to a forum user on Bethesda Software’s blog, we now know that new content is coming to the world of Tamriel. That wall of text may seem like nothing to some of you, but let’s break down each section. First of all, the “Snow Elf Prince” in question is a new character, most likely the leader of the Snow Elves, a race that once inhabited Skyrim. A book entitled Fall of the Snow Elf Prince can be found in the game currently; it tells the take of the race’s downfall. It seems as if the DLC will focus on this race, but whether it involves helping them reclaim their past glory or not remains to be seen.

The new vampire code is fairly simple: playing as a vampire is being tweaked. The next section involving the crossbows is also simple: they are being added as weapons. Finally, the “RF” code (despite the forum poster not knowing its use) seems to involve emotions and dialogue. New ways to talk to people, perhaps?

In any case, we expect an official announcement from Bethesda soon. Skyrim is great, yes, but how much better would it be with Snow Elves, vampirism tweaks, crossbows, and new dialogue choices? We’ll just have to wait for the developers to clear this up.

I hope the vampire changes are for the better. I never liked how the other TES games handled it. "Get more powerful the more starving you are." Made no sense. I always installed mods that made you more powerful if you've recently fed, but still get more monstrous (and weaker) the longer you've gone without it.

Probably a balance issue. But it's a single player game, so who cares?

I'd wager the 'R' in "RF" is "Radiant".

Found a reason to load up this game again. I used a couple of mods to accurately create character-art for game Diamondeye runs on this board.

See what you're all missing not playing in my game! Naked chicks on unicorns! :D

As a side note, you guys were right about it being heat causing my performance issues. It took me a long while to figure out what was going on because I could never see the temperature at the time of the crash - only after a reboot, and because all the cooling systems seemed normal: All the various case fans, water CPU cooling, and the GPU fan were running. I didn't appreciate just how fast temperature can rise inside the GPU even with the cooler running at its high idle speed and all 8 case fans running.

Evidently what was happening was that the GPU was overheating. I eventually discovered this while playing Diablo 3 when I, on a whim, alt-tabbed out and looked at Catalyst which indicated the temperature was at 81 degrees Celsius and climbing, and the fan was not going above 33% RPM or so. I noticed also that there was a setting I hadn't looked closely at before, namely "Enable manual fan control". I clicked the box, moved the slider to 100%, which rapidly dropped the temperature into the high 50s or so. I set it back to 65% and kept playing; no further problems. Tried out Skyrim later and viola! Crash was gone.

Another thing that was throwing me off was that Deus Ex, Wolfenstein, Space Marine, and a few others never really caused the problem. I thought they'd be fairly demanding graphically, especially Deus Ex, but evidently they really weren't, and the GPU could still cool itself with only a miniscule bump in RPM.

The only thing is that running the cooler up to higher RPMs makes a lot of noise. I had read about this with the Northern Islands Radeon cards back when shopping for this thing, but I thought a lot of it was technophile complaining that it wasn't utterly silent. Evidently the complaints were quite valid. The noise from the GPU is nontrivial at 33%. At 65% it's an annoyance. At 100% it's like a tiny jet engine is running inside the computer. It's a bit of a detriment, but I also take a perverse pleasure in knowing it needs that much cooling!

Anyhow, thanks for the advice. You guys have good instincts!

Looking for some input:

The path I've played has been a sneak based archer/throat slitter, and along those lines I'm looking for a second quality unique dagger to pair with Mehrune's Razor. Any thoughts?

one thing I approve of in Skyrim: ultimately none of the "unique" items will ever be as good as what you can make yourself. Dragonscale light armor and daedric bow/daggers with double enchantments are as good as you can get. (It doesn't help that the unique items tend not to be tied to smithing perks, so you cannot improve them as far.)

You might consider a replacement heat sink and a massive, slow, fan. Quieter for the same volume air moved.

Thanks. I've had that questline on hold for quite a while now (took a break from it when it got to The Gourmet phase). Sounds like I need to get back to it.

I don't really see myself opening up the GPU and replacing the heat sink or the cooling blower.

That is mostly true...but there are some unique items that have enchantments that you can't enchant(like the dark brotherhood gloves with double damage on sneak attacks that stacks with the perks...x30 damage with daggers is kind of hard to beat especially since the 1 handed increased damage enchants don't increase dagger damage without mods).

That appears to allow mounted combat.

That is, indeed, one of its features.

That feature all by itself would make the expansion.

I've never been a fan of the mounts in the ES series. Maybe because I always treat my character like he is spiderman bouncing up and down cliffs, over mountains, etc.

The mounts in skyrim were far more like spider-man. Those things were like mountain goats. They could climb up near-vertical surfaces that a player on foot couldn't even fathom climbing.

I use a unicorn-mount mod. Neat thing is the unicorn is indestructable, which means you can have it leap from the top of a mountain and not worry about the landing...if the mount takes no damage, neither does its rider.
