My grandfather had an expression to answer the question of your conundrums, Dark and Lex. He liked to use it to beat me, and my cousins, and likely my father and uncles about the head logically, "Engage in the fights you know you can win. Engage the fights you know you can't win elsewhere, until you win them."

He was a profoundly wise man.

Don't beat your head on the wall, or cost yourself standing by fighting battles that are unwinnable. Pick your battlefield. Be the master of your own intelectual destiny.

Holding back your best strikes for a time when it matters is best, and logical. Anything else amounts to nothing more than pissing into the wind.

Fight to win the war, not the battle.

Violence is almost never the best solution. It can be outrageously satisfying, but that doesn't mean it's the best choice. Or even the right choice.

Violence isn't the answer. Violence is the question. "Yes" is the answer.

Heh. Maybe I need to go back to my old sig line from years ago.

Do you see any superlatives in my post?
