Anyone have one? Thoughts?

Considering grabbing one from Google Play for $399 without a contract.

Hmm I've wanted a Galaxy Nexus for a while, but I decided on getting an HTC One S instead. If I can get a TMO compatible nexus for $400 that's pretty tempting.

This. I'm not quite due for an upgrade; my myTouch 4G is holding up pretty well, but it's pretty cool that Google's added Nexus phones to the Google Play store. Maybe this fall... especially if a Nexus phone comes out that supports Jelly Bean...

I ordered a Galaxy Nexus from Google Play yesterday. It shipped today an is scheduled to arrive sometime tomorrow.

Spent the last couple of hours setting up my new toy. It's certainly a lot bigger than my old Nexus One, but it's a lot faster too. The new UI changes will take some adjustment, but given time it should be fine.

Did this come with Vanilla ICS? or some kind of Samsung overlay?

The HSPA+ version of the phone, which is the only version available from Google Play, comes with a slot for a full size SIM. It did not come with a SIM. In the box was a small AC-> USB brick, a micro-USB cable, and headphones. The turnaround time was very fast. I ordered the phone on Monday morning, and it shipped Tuesday morning. The phone left Kentucky and arrived in Detroit where I'm on my business trip, and I had it in my hands by noon. I spent a good portion of the afternoon installing apps and migrating data. Google sometimes likes to 'restore' my apps after I reinstall the OS, but this time I had to do everything manually. Probably because it's a new phone and not a reinstalled old phone. I found one app that did not install on the new phone: Ringdroid. Hopefully I won't need it.

I found out that the phone can take panoramic pictures. So, for your enjoyment, is a random panoramic picture I took in a hallway at work:

I'm pretty sure this is the phone I'll be upgrading to in a week or so. It's either this, the Droid Razr Max or the IPhone 4s

My current phone sucks, so anything I get will be a big upgrade. I want something that takes good pictures and has a decent battery life. I think all the ones on my list qualify.

The iPhone will take the best pictures, and the Razr Maxx will likely have the best battery life. The Nexus would probably be the best user experience.

Hmm, I'm not really a good judge of that. Right now it's at 57%, and that's from moderate usage. According to the battery statistics, the screen is taking up 72% of the battery usage. For someone like me, who tends to poke and paw at the phone throughout the day, I expect the battery to last a single day. I'm mostly sending and reading email and texts, plus surfing the Glade and playing a few games, like Drawing and Scramble. I also use it to look things up, like wikipedia or Google Maps.

Put it this way, my current phone dies after maybe 6 hours of moderate use. On light use (meaning hardly any at all) it might last 10-12 hours. The pictures are terrible. It's 3.2 MP but it's not even a good quality for that resolution.

I guess I missed this thread. I've had a Nexus since it was first released.

If you want to save battery life, make sure you're WiFi is on and you're connected to a wireless network (this runs counter to saving batteries on other phones). 4G is the biggest hog of battery life. So if you have to go out for long periods of time where there is no WiFi and you won't need 4G, I'd recommend setting it back to 3G.

With WiFi on at work and home, without taking many calls and moderate usage of the internet, my battery is still around 85%+ by the time I go to bed at night.

The phone itself has yet to receive a new update, outside of rooting your phone and updating it yourself. Whether that's because Google is pissed at how Verizon handled their phone and has washed their hands of it, or it's still being tested, who knows. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the former. But, the phone is very easy to root and update manually. I'd recommend checking out the android forums for different walk-throughs if you are interested.

Overall I like my phone. I wouldn't call it a powerhouse, but it does everything I need it to do. And the screen itself is beautiful and bright. The Super AMOLED is a huge difference to many others out there.

And it is also nice that the phone isn't loaded down with bloatware (which rooting would take care of anyway) right out of the box. There are only two verizon apps on it, and both can be easily disabled.

What version of Android came installed?

I just got one earlier this week fresh off the assembly line (the unlocked HSPA+/GSM version from Google Play). I didn't get a chance to check what version of ICS was installed out of the box, but it auto-updated to 4.0.4 within a few minutes of taking it out of the box.

I have never seen Verizon's version of phone, so I have no idea what modifications they may have made to the installed code (I suspect they are significant).

For locked, vendor specific devices, once Google releases a code rev, it is then up to the hardware vendor and the service provider to customize it to meet their needs (which must then be independently validated/tested before release), and then to distribute it via OTA. Needless to say, there isn't much motivation from the provider to push these updates, as they've already sold it. Their developers and validation teams prioritize pending hardware over patching stuff they've already sold.

Verizon's phones are still on 4.0.2. I've heard some people are finally getting localized updates now, which may mean a global update in the future. But who knows?

As part of the deal with Google, Verizon was only allowed to install two apps of their own (which can easily be disabled), they replaced "Google" on the back of the phone with their own logo, and they were to be the first carrier to release the phone while other carriers had to wait a set amount of time before releasing the same phone.

Verizon kept pushing back the release date over and over, many folks think (and I am one of them) to thwart other carriers from releasing the phone before Christmas (Verizon finally released their phone pretty close to Christmas last year).

And it would not surprise me that Google did not like all the demands made by Verizon in order to release their phone with them as well as how they kept pushing back Google's flagship phone for petty politics. If Verizon pissed off Google enough to never get another Nexus phone, I will be quite upset. The whole point of Nexus phones is that they get updates directly from Google, and don't have any bloatware. I think Google has specifically and purposefully kept updates from Verizon's phones.

Conspiracy theories abound.

Got my Nexus yesterday. Big step up from my previous phone. Love the screen and layout. So far no complaints! ... other than the Freecell Solitaire game I used to play on my old phone isnt on it. The free one I downloaded is kinda crappy.

My Nexus died.

I was playing a tower game, it froze on me and made a horrible sound. It was unresponsive, wouldn't shut off with the power button so I removed the battery. Now it's not working. I tried battery in and out. Tried holding the power and volume at the same time, nothing. The PC did recognize it so it's not a brick, probably just corrupted? but now I cant get the PC to see it again.

I believe the car dock is not made with the Verizon phone in mind. But here is a link that can help you convert it.

Yea, I've seen references to the fact that Verizon's version of the device is a little different, and may not work with some of the standard accessories.

I got the Car Dock yesterday for my HSPA version of the device. It's definitely a very solid piece of kit. However, the fit is very snug, and it's a pain to get the phone in and out without the power and volume buttons being pressed.

I wouldn't consider this a deal breaker though. More like an annoyance.
