Riov,

Could I bother you to put a short description of the link in your post, so I know whether its something I want to read at work, or save for later?

Lord of the Rings Lego kits. Looks like they're just minifigs.

Normally I'd agree. However, if you read the visible part of his link, it tells you exactly what it is.

Sorry, will try to do so in the future, but anything I link that would even be potentially NSFW I'll certainly label as such.

And that's laudable, but what is "safe" for work varies from workplace to workplace. Many, for instance, block gaming sites, while passing anything that's "news." And some places flag requests that get blocked and monitor how often people run up against the blocks. Thus, the more information, the better, particularly in the "Entertainment" sub-forum.

If my workplace, does that, I'm screwed. I read a few feminist blogs, and they often end up getting blocked for "Adult: Sex" because of discussions of rape, sexualized advertising, body image issues, etc. The IT guys must think I sit around surfing pr0n sites all day!

Unless your IT department is hugely bloated, the only time any of those logs really get looked at is if you're in trouble for something else.

Or your identity awareness system is sophisticated enough to automatically report violations of either state/local/federal law or company policy to HR. Because of the nature of my work, things like message board activity is highly scrutinized for data leakage, etc....

Bear in mind though. I have a limited amount of time to browse the web at work, and I try to limit the number of and types of media I browse. I usually avoid all manner of streaming videos, and dedicated image sites, especially if they are hi-res images, just because I don't want to raise any flags.

I usually limit my work browsing to work/industry related sites, tech news (with a little gaming stuff thrown in if I'm feeling frisky), and if I have time, I will take a quick scan of some message boards.

I was pretty sure Riov's link was 'safe'. I wasn't so much worried about it being naughty. I just like to have some idea of the nature of a link before I click it, so I can make a value judgement about whether I want to read 'now' or 'later'...

It's no big deal, really... I just thought I'd ask nicely....

I've seen blue coat categorise a counselling site as adult/mature content. Brilliant.
