So Del Taco has all these funky names for their sauces that I can never remember. I always want the hottest sauce. I have tried various methods of achieving this result, with no success. So at first, when they asked what kind of hot sauce I want, I would answer "the HOT hot sauce". Invariably I would receive mild. I then tried saying "the really hot sauce". Mild. Then I tried saying "the hottest sauce you've got". Medium. Then I tried to remember the name of it, and said "Del Scorcho", which sounds like it should be hot, but it's actually medium. I always decide I'll try and memorize the name of the hot sauce "Del Inferno", but I don't eat at Del Taco all that often and I always forget.

So now my tactic is just to say "the hottest sauce you've got", and then wait until they bring the food, then fish out all the mild and medium sauces and wait until the person notices I'm still sitting there and comes back to the window, then I hand over all the mild and medium and ask for hot. I've thought of answering the sauce question with "I do not want mild, I do not want medium, I DO want hot." Or maybe answer the question with "Ok, I'll say the hottest sauce you have, then you'll get mild and/or medium, then I'll take it out and hand it back and ask for hot, then you'll give me hot sauce? Ok, go!" But that seems preemptively rude. And although they've never got it right yet, I hate being rude without even giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I've gone there maybe a couple dozen times since I moved down the street from Del Taco a few years ago, and I am dead serious when I say that every single time they have failed to bring me hot sauce on the first try.

"Just give me all of the bacon and eggs you have. Wait, wait. I worry that what you heard was 'Give me a lot of bacon and eggs.' What I said was 'Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.' Do you understand?"

I miss Del Taco... there used to be one or two of them around here, but now they're all gone

closest one is 50+ miles on the other side of the megatropolis traffic mess from me.

One of these days, if I'm in the area, I'll stop in...

Closest one is less than a mile away and my late night fast food of choice.

Sigh. I really shouldn't.

Yep...that one's about 10-15 minutes from my house. I go once every other month or so.

Is it their policy to hand out medium when people ask for hot just so people don't complain that they got sauce that was too spicy?

Nah, Del Scorcho used to be "hot". Del Inferno is a relatively recent innovation. But it *is* awesome.

If you always go through the drive through, why don't you clip a packet of the stuff you want to your sun visor? And then you can just look up and read it off when they ask the question.

Heh, guess you don't live in So Cal. I can't begin to imagine how many of them there are in a 50-mile radius of my house. Dozens, I'm sure.
