So...Lenas' recommendation of a Logitech MX got me thinking...I'm willing to dive into a new mouse (mine's old and they don't make my preferred type anymore :(). Sooo...recommend for me a new one! I don't really care about a bunch of buttons; I'm very simplistic when it comes to mice, and wouldn't use them, but it's damned hard to find mice that aren't lousy with the things anymore.

Links would be greatly appreciated, too. :D

Edit: Oh! No trackballs. Also, preferably wired.

Logitech

G400 or G500. I've owned precursors to both, and they're both awesomely comfy, without being gruesome figures described by the horrific gibberings of madmen (Like my R.A.T. 7).

I've not used one, but the M500 might also suit you.

Or just buy them both. :-)

The MX is probably fantastic, too, 'Skeee. I was recommending the 400's and 500's because it was my recollection that you prefer the somewhat less drastically contoured mice. If the deep thumb groove doesn't offend your ergonomic sensibilities, by all means favor Lenas' advice -- spec-wise, it's the best of what the two of us recommended.

You know what I hate? Mice that are so thin that I need to hold them daintily between my thumb and ring finger. I'M LOOKING AT YOU, MAGIC MOUSE.

The MX is like a hug, for your hand.

I completely agree. It's why I love my R.A.T.s.

Wait a second, are there any corded MX's anymore? The MX 518 is out of production (it's what I was referring to when I said I'd had a precursor to the G500; it's the same body design), and the Performance MX appears to only be cordless.

It's wireless, but I'm liking my Logitech M510 It's the closest thing I could find to my old one.

What kind did you have? I'm sad to say I probably have a box of 40 misc ones laying around that might rekindle your love.

I love my performance MX. Got it with a Wave keyboard, and the two of them are both fantastic.

I don't desktop it up much anymore, but when I do, I get my Logitech MX on.

Mostly I use a laptop and a trackball.

Microsoft Habu. Wired, not wireless. Classic intellimouse shell shape, big enough to fit my hand comfortably. Sensible button arrangements. Razer software support & tracking hardware for twitch sensitive gaming.

I've been happy since Sass recommended it.

Logitech G400 hands down. Successor to the MX518. Wired. You've got two side thumb buttons and a button both above and below the scrollwheel. Plus the scroll button. So 5 on your mouse. Great for mapping in any game.

I'm still rocking my G9 (pre-laser, old school!) and love it. If you are a finger gripper and not a claw gripper it's an excellent piece of hardware.

Also, as Kaffis and I have both said many times, if you don't have the free spinning scroll wheel, you're not really living.

I miss it dearly. Now that I've got two R.A.T.s, I've seriously considered disassembling the older one to see if I can transplant the weighted wheel in.

What's your preferred type of mouse? I too was frustrated with all the modern mice being vastly different than what I was used to (Microsoft Intellimouse). However, there are options out there beyond the standard Logitech mice that always get recommended.

I went with the Steelseries Xai. It's got a simple design very similar to my old Intellimouse, but it's packed with all the modern tracking technology and has a bunch of advanced settings for sensitivity, speed, etc. It was quite expensive at 90$, but I've heard they have a good reputation for solid hardware so I'm hoping it will last me a long time.

Image
It seems the Xai has been discontinued, but they have other mice that appear similar that are probably successors or whatever. The Steelseries Sensei looks like the successor.
