Just broke into Inferno Act 2, and man does it suck. I went from being able to pretty much tank champions in A1, to being one-shot by trash enemies in A2. Sadface for sure.

I did feel kinda good about myself for getting the sub 2-minute kill achievement on Butcher the first time I killed him. Been running a Spike Trap build today and it's pretty fun. WAY more useful in a hallway, but still helped out with DPS on the Butcher when I had to run away from fires or create distance.

Many reasons? Like what, it's better than Diablo 2 so I don't want to buy it?

That's incredibly short-sighted and ignorant but yes, there are many reasons. The foremost reason is because it's Diablo. It simply can't stray too far from its roots without risking reinventing itself and completely alienating the things we love about Diablo. Much in the same way that, side-by-side, Half-Life 2 is objectively a better game in every aspect possible than Half-Life yet will never be beloved, heralded or cherished as much. So while it's a better game in every aspect, it's not a better game given its context in history.

I like that they did manage to keep the same fundamental gameplay while streamlining much of the tedium out of it and freshening it by making it more dynamic. Gameplay aside, which I believe is a less major aspect to the franchise than it is in other games, the game is pleasing so far. I'm a little bit let down so far, by the graphics and art, which is a big part of the game but not terribly disappointed. Sanctuary is more seamless but it's also less exotic and varied. The art just feels too close other dungeon crawlers to me. But again, a minor point.

Again, it's a very good game, better than Diablo II, but given the context (nearly 12 years later) the game would have to pull some Deus Ex level voodoo out of its *** to surpass it Diablo I and II from a historical perspective.

Blizz definitely had a tough job on it's hands. For 12 years, companies have been churning out Diablo 2 clones and streamlining the experience. They had to take that advancement, and then refine it even further. I personally feel like they did a pretty good job. There are little things here and there that I don't like, but overall, it is an extremely polished piece of work, and it's evident how much money truly went into the depth of it.

I've adopted Ulfynn's idea of just putting things up at 1k-10k, and hoping it sells.

It's too bad there's no easy way to "share" gear though- something like a guild bank.

I'd much prefer to just drop all the decent stuff I get somewhere for you guys to go through it.

Even pricing what I consider decent items at 5k isn't getting me anything. I got fed up and just sold/salvaged 1.5 stash tabs worth of 59-60 gear.

Heh.

Yeah, seems like the gear market is getting saturated fast.

10 runs through NM Whimsey and not a single Monk drop. Whee!

Surprised it took so long to get the hacked version going. Enjoy, Taly! :P

Guy streaming live right now going for the world first Inferno HC Diablo kill, since the patch is confirmed hitting tomorrow and will make things easier.

We all still playing?

I've been farming Inferno act 1 since A2/3 are still out of my league. Recent patch making my repairs cost 30k every time I go yellow certainly doesn't help.

I ended up getting the million for Whimsy Inferno but it's hardly even worth doing now. Clouds / pots of gold got nerfed and ponies don't get stuck on trees anymore so it's just too hard for me to even bother atm. Big waste of money that was.

Wait, Whimsey got nerfed?

I haven't played in the last week or so.

Magic Find no longer affects chests, so that includes pots of gold and clouds in Whimsy. Furthermore, you can no longer get ponies stuck on a tree, so farming there is pretty difficult. These changes plus the increase in repair costs (30k full repair for me) makes it not worth it at all.

Whimsy does still have an increased drop rate for ilvl63 items (8%, same as Act 3/4 rates) but now every elite/champion/boss in Act 1 also has a chance (2%) of dropping ilvl 63 rares, so it's easiest to just get 5 stacks of NV real quick and blow through all of Act 1.

Full clear of Act 1 with 5 stacks of NV you're probably looking at 30-60 rares depending on your luck.

I'm playing, but I don't do the multiplayer thing.

Bee tee dubs, an interview with a former Blizzard employee (one of the Torchlight fellows, I believe) stated that D3 was originally conceived as an MMO (the long-gestating "World of Diablocraft" rumor), hence the vestigial tails of constant online access and auction houses remaining.

I got REALLY frakking frustrated with getting constantly raped by XXX/XXX/Mortar elite packs in Hell diff... so I put it down for the moment.

I had Mortar/Jailer/Waller... there was literally nothing I could do with that mix

Hmm, never realized you could get ponies stuck in a tree... That would have really helped keep the Unicorn Squad from mashing me several times.

And while I didn't have as hard of a time with Mortar packs, I kept getting invul/extra health/fast wasps in Act II Hell... And that blew. They run away from you faster than you can catch them, and then stop and you can't do any damage.

I also ran across some invul/fire chain/arcane wasps... They basically just kited me with their chains.

Wizzy, Ive been using Electric Pulse (with lightning orb rune) on left click, Blizz with the freeze chance on right. Diamond Skin (extra damage) on 1, Teleport (spawn 2 mirror images) on 2, Magic Weapon (arcane) on 3, and Mirror Image (5 images) on 4

Specifying your hotkeys makes me wonder if you know about elective mode? It's under the gameplay options and it lets you customize your bar so you aren't stuck with a specific build. Expanding your skill options could help out with your problem.

If i didnt know about elective mode, how could I have Blizzard on right click? ;) I just listed the keys so you knew what skills I was using. I'm already using 3 defensive skills PLUS blizz

Its just the mortar enemies which kick my ***

Hehe. For me, this last patch removed any problems from mortar enemies- melee should almost always be in their blind spot.

Got rid of all the running enemies, too!

I'm a much happier monk.

I'm running through Nightmare with my Monk now. I got frustrated with the mobs on Hell so took a break from my DH.

I've been playing my monk on and off, little over 10 hours and level 38. It's getting a little tedious playing Lenas because of drop rates / lack of money.

On that note, here's a great write-up on MF and how it seems to work: http://www.diablofans.com/topic/57939-o ... l-insight/

Conclusions:
Magic find increases the class ("item-color") of the gear found.
Magic find does not increase the number of items found.
Magic find does not increase the iLvl of the gear found.

I've been leveling my Barb- want to get him up into the 50s so he and my Monk are running Hell/Inferno in parallel, so they can use the gear the other finds. Since I seem to get mostly monk drops on my Barb, and mostly Barb drops on my Monk, I'm thinking this will work out quite well.
