I can understand the 'hole in the ground' thing, but I still think the pools are very nice to look at and much prefer it to something like another black wall with names engraved on it. It's unique.

Don't they shoot huge spotlights out of the pools at night to create giant pillars of light where the towers stood?

That would require private investment, and that investment stands a good chance of being opposed by public sentiment, which could jeopordize the quality of that investment. Additionally, I don't know how insurable the investment would be.

I cannot vouch for the accuracy of these numbers, based on a lot of conflicting information out there. But, it appears we are rebuilding at least a high percentage of the previous space.
