People shouldn't "read into" children's movies so much I think.

But if we don't do that, how will we know that Hollywood is indoctrinating our children with their good/bad gender roles and leftist/not-liberal-enough agendas?

Quite frankly, a humongous unruly mop of red curls, a torn and dirty dress, and a bow makes for a much cooler princess anyway. Dressing up for fancy balls is lame. We're I still ten years old, Merida would probably be much hotter than any of the other princesses.

Pixar has spoiled everybody with the highly original and artsy Wall-E and Up. Those two movies were the exception, not the norm. Not a single Pixar movie has ever been bad. (No, not even Cars 2.) Pixar is becoming a victim of their own success.

I still haven't seen Brave (I'll take my kids later this week.) I expect to adore it ...but it's a princess story, not a story about an old man flying his house to south america out of romantic obligation to his late wife. Pixar is not a genre, they're a studio. Each movie stands apart from the others. Compare Brave to Tangled, The Princess & the Frog, Beauty & the Beast... all outstanding movies, with more in common than Up or Wall-E or Finding Nemo would have.

Not every movie needs to draw tears. Not every movie needs to be wholely new and unique (so very few stories are.)

My favorite Pixar film still is The Incredibles (not Wall-E or Up, which receive far more attention.) I don't expect Brave to change my favorite Pixar film. Doesn't mean I won't enjoy it. My least favorite Pixar movie? Without question, "A Bug's Life." (Yes, I liked Cars 2 better.) It was still good, and I can enjoy it again. I guess what I'm saying is that failing to duplicate the uniqueness of a pair of movies like Wall-E and Up does not mean they've lost their creativity or are in a decline.

I saw it a second time and liked it better. I got to focus on the details. The story bugged me less, and I just got to enjoy it.
