They are under the same tax structure Monte in the eyes of the government there is no difference between any non profit. They obey the same rules. One of those rules is the lack of anything political. No lobbying, no endorsing or opposing candidates.

Acorn does the above. Ergo it violates the rules hence it should lose 501c3 status.

Not only that, but the prohibition against "involvement in politics" is against involvement in the political process i.e. elections, endorsements, lobbying; the things Elmo cited. It does not in any way prohibit a stand on political issues. A church or other non-profit organization can say anything they want about any political issue; a law saying hey couldn't or even making their tax status contingent on such a thing would violate both Free Exercise and Freedom of Speech.
