The only real issue I had was...

Spoiler:
What was Davids motivation for slipping Liz's bf the black goo? It seemed as if he had direction to do that by the way he carried it out but they never even hint to him being directed to do so in the movie(that I could tell). And being an android, anger/revenge/malice or whatever shouldn't play a part. Weyland's whole deal was just cheating death. Or was it an implied thing and you'll find out something else in the next one(there has got to be another one...please let there be another one).

Yes, that was one of many issues I had with the film.

Spoiler:
I think he was trying to help. David understood more than anyone what the purpose of the goo was, and that's why he only put it in the drink when the guy said he'd do anything to find out the truth, etc. He was attempting to help the guy "evolve" or grow into the next stage of whatever.

I think I'm going to go see it again. After thinking about the film some more, and reading a couple in-depth reviews and analyses, there were definitely some deeper themes I missed. I still say the film was too muddled, but hopefully I'll appreciate it more.

The guy from Lost was involved, so...

Spoiler:
I originally thought that too. But my wife pointed out that that maybe David was jealous of the BF in some weird way, since we know he was dream-stalking her and we didn't see him do that to anyone else. And the BF was kind of a dick to the robot in several scenes.

Saw it yesterday afternoon, then sort of binged on reviews, theories, and commentaries for a couple of hours afterwards.

FWIW: my take on it is that it's a great prologue piece. It doesn't tell much of a story on its own, and it by no means answers all the questions, but it lays the groundwork for future storytelling and baits the hook with the unexplained bits.

I walked out of the theater wanting to see more, and I think that was the point.

Spoiler:
Possible, but if so then why ask him about what he would do to learn his origin, etc. David was very careful to not contaminate his drink until after he answered that question. I think it was just cold reasoning, with no human insight.

I just read the first review linked earlier by FarSky, and at the end of it there's a series of video links. The first one is fantastic, which pretty much points out all of the questions/problems I had with the film.

I went and saw it tonight. Fantastic film.

Spoiler:
Clearly, this is not the ship we see in Alien and in Aliens. The planet in Prometheus was planet LV-223 and the planet in Alien and Aliens was LV-426. So, either Scott is ignoring Aliens and beyond or something else. I guess Dr. Shaw could go off and find other engineers and they could come back to LV-223 after they kill her and pick up the alien(I think it was a queen, what with the jaw coming further out of the head...really reminded me of the queen is introduced in Aliens) only to have it lay eggs and kill everyone, crash landing on LV-426.

I have to say, I really liked the giant face hugger. That was cool.

This was my take as well. I believe my exact words were "a beautiful world building movie with some action scenes."

I just got back from seeing it tonight. Here is my thought

Spoiler:
I think David was programmed with some sort of rudimentary morality (to prevent him from releasing a deadly neurotoxin or something) but was also programmed to find a way to "save" Weyland. He was doing an experiment, but could only do it on a "willing" participant. Hence he gave the dude what he asked for and got to monitor the results.

Saw it yesterday. Fantastic, in a cool clinical detailed sort of way. 3d didn't bother me too much either. 8/10!

I thought a creeping undertone of the movie was that despite everyone telling David to his face he has no soul or emotions, he in fact does, and is very very angry about it. "the secret is to not mind that it hurts" "doesn't everybody want to kill their parents?" "I suppose I would be free"

If you view it that way, drunk dr was astonishingly rude to him. He's a person treated as an appliance - blade runner style.

I really don't think David was helping. He could read the writing on a warship full of WMD well enough to pilot it, wake aliens, navigate star maps. He doesn't tell anyone it's a warship full of weapons. He opens doors to bomb bays and calls them cargo. He does this despite the dr saying do not touch the vase bombs, and to be more cautious about opening the doors.

He never translates anything for them - and heads to open the door by the 'broken' drone that sees life signs without fixing it or reporting what was there.

He has his own agenda ;)
