That's one common definition of racism. Another common definition is "prejudice or discrimination based on race". Often, people distinguish the two by calling the former racial supremacism and the latter racial prejudice, both of which are housed under the blanket term of racism. That's my preferred approach, but YMMV. Either way, calling it prejudice based on race instead of just saying racism doesn't change the moral implications in my opinion.

So is white ressentiment.

I don't see anything in there to indicate Martin was walking on private property prior to Zimmerman following him. Not saying he wasn't, but I didn't see anything one way or the other in that 911 call. My understanding, though, was that Zimmerman spotted him and started following him while he was walking back from the 7/11 on the sidewalk and it was after that when Martin took off running across a grassy park area.

Zimmerman has said as much. I tried to find you a quote, but googling "why was martin suspicious" just turns up a whole steaming pile of unusable bullshit. On the recording, Zimmerman says he's "just walking around looking about." he also notes he looks like he's on "drugs or something". If you were heading down the road, nobody would say you're walking around looking about. And you have to be doing something suspicious for someone to say you look like you're on drugs.

Unless of course the observer is such a racist that all black folks can't possibly have a destination, and all of them are on drugs anyway, so because he's black he must be wandering around and on drugs, even though he's walking down the sidewalk in a specific direction quoting scripture. (assume worst case scenario)

I have to say, if I saw a guy wearing a hood, walking in the rain in a determined fashion and quoting scripture to himself ("And I looked, and beheld a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him!"), I think I'd be even more suspicious.

I could do see this happen.

RD gets the crap beat out oh him by a black guy(I mean you know RD would just roll over. Lord forbid he puts himself in a position to do or say anything negative against a minority). The cops get involved. The officer asks him to identify his attacker.

RD - "yeah, he was like 6 feet, 200 lbs. had hair. Ten fingers. Was male looking.

Cop - "could be more specific?"

RD- "yeah. He had eyes and I think teeth. Lips. A nose."

Cop- "what color was he?"

RD - "sorry. I'm not comfortable with this line of questioning."

*sigh* You just don't get it do you, Nitefox? As a white person, having benefited from literally hundreds of years of enslavement and oppression of black people, I would have a moral obligation to not call the cops in the first place.

Then everyone is a racist. If that is your view then almost ever black is racist because they like all races tend to self-segregate which means they are discriminating based on race.

It is too soon to tell. We managed not to burn too much here when Chavalia was acquitted so it's always possible. I'm not sure since this case is about a private citizen and not a cop if that makes it more or less likely.

That's true in every society. "The land of the free" refers to politics. It doesn't mean, and never has implied, that the social environment will be fair.
