Coming home from Panama while on leave I had a 4.5 hour layover there. It was the day the feds raided the ranch in Waco. I got drunk as a skunk sitting in one of the bars.

Well, losing a snake or a scorpion in your room would top that, for me, actually. I would not do well out West.

Then go all the way to the coast. The West is usually considered to be east of California.

I haven't had to kill a snake or a venomous bug in years. Relatively rare in civilized parts of the left coast.

Not sure what you mean by 'Out West', but we don't have problems with venomous creatures in Western Washington.

Classically, the "West" starts west of the Mississippi River and stops at the coastal states eastern borders.

As time went on, the Midwest became west of the Mississippi River and North of Oklahoma to the Rockie Mountains.

The West Coast has been the three of the contiguous 48 states that touch the Pacific Ocean.

It surprised me when I found out the three westernmost of the contiguous 48 were not part of The West.

My brother-in-law, the former Colonel and three tours with the Rangers one, once told me about a pack of raccoons terrorizing a Ranger camp during a minimal equipment exercise, and how they had to learn how to do with even less than they planned because the damn bandits stole as much as they could. He also said they didn't allow the Rangers to eat the ones they killed, too high an incidence of rabies and other human effecting diseases.

A girl I work with was telling me about her dad, I guess he is in his 70's and some dementia is starting to set in. She said he wanted to help her mom so her mom asked him to go to the market to pick up a few things. She made a list and sent him off (it's within walking distance). On the list she put 4-5 lbs of fish....and a few other things.

When he came home ( he got a ride from a neighbor that happened to be there) they started bringing in all these bags.... He bought 45lbs of fish. He had 12 bags of fish.
