In the theater I saw the one with 'Pa Kent' doing the voice over. This one is the very same but with Jor-El. I am excited. Crowe's dialogue is lifted word for word from All-Star Superman.

What's with the Lord of the Rings soundtrack music in it?

I have no idea why but this reminded me of a joke:
Quote:
It's Saturday night and Superman is especially ready to party after a hard week of saving the world. So he throws on his cape and heads off to a party. Along the way, he passes Wonder Woman's penthouse suite. To his surprise, he sees through her open window that she is still at home, naked in her bed, lying on her back squirming around looking real hot.

Superman thinks to himself, "I'm faster than a speeding bullet. I can fly in there, have sex with her and be gone before she knows it." So in an instant, Superman flies in, does the deed, and flies back out.

At this point, Wonder Woman sits up and says, "Did you hear something?"

"No," replies the Invisible Man, "but my butt is killing me.

Haha I've heard the same joke, but she was lying on a nude beach, and the punchline is "I'm not sure, but I think I just got effed in the a".

Marvel has raised the bar so much with Avengers and the kin movies that it's hard to care.

Few early trailers for a movie contain music original to the movie it came from (typically because it hasn't been scored yet). It's been a common practice for decades to lift music (from other movies, even) for teaser trailers.

Generally the editors just re-use music that fits with the mood they're trying to portray for the teaser. I would guess they're trying to move away from Williams' classic theme (though I think that would be a bad move, that music is now pretty much synonymous with supes).

Yeah, i've seen that before, but they picked such an iconic moment from Fellowship of the Ring that it detracts from this trailer. I'm supposed to be listening to Jor-El talk to his son. Meanwhile all I can see is Frodo screaming after Gandalf falls, and the fellowship hastily escaping Moria...

I think the problem is that Han Zimmer has not finished the score yet. And yea, they are not using Williams music in this film.

Well, no, they are not using William's music. That said, they're also not using Howard Shore's LotR music.

Of the two, one of them wouldn't leave me thinking of an entirely different franchise while watching this trailer.

Hasn't that LOTR cut been used in a lot of teasers over the last few years? I'm always suprised when they choose such a well known piece for a teaser, that's obviously going to remind you of another film. Maybe that's the idea... "hey, our music reminds you of LOTR! Our new superman is going to be as good as that series!" Yeah.. no.

Or maybe...most people have only seen the LoTR films once and don't know that music at the drop of the first note.

That'd be me. Though, I've seen them more than once.

If it doesn't suck, it'll be the first time a Superman film hasn't sucked.

I really hope it doesn't suck.

Nolan has an incredible resume. That said, Superman seems a tough challenge to make a good movie out of.

Just because you didn't like something, doesn't mean it sucked.

But...they kinda sucked. Objectively. The Chris Reeve Supes movies were all intentionally campy and stuff. The Brandon Routh one was just...weird.

That said, I'm not a big Chris Nolan fan. I don't hate him either. I do think he's overrated. The Prestige may be his best movie, I really liked Batman Begins, and Inception was fun, but I was not a fan of TDK or TDKR. They were merely "alright." But what the hell is with the man's limited color pallette on film? Seriously, we get sunlight, white, concrete grey, brown, and black. That's it. In all his movies, that's the extent of the color we see. There's no greens, reds, blues...it's like he's decided to make his movies through alternating black and white lenses and sepia lenses.

The first...maybe two-thirds? of Donner's Superman: The Movie are great...but then it all falls apart. I haven't seen the Donner "version" of Superman II but the theatrical continued on from that campy, stupid vibe the latter third of the first film.

The less said about III and IV the better (though the robot scene was terrifying).

Superman Returns had a chance at righting the ship, but Singer's slavish devotion to the originals sank it. It had a pretty good leading man (who was really just playing Chris Reeve, but there are far worse things for a lead Superman actor to do) but making Superman into a deadbeat dad creeper was just...wrong. Evil and vile and wrong. And Bosworth was terrible.

I can't argue with anything you have said. I hated Bosworth. I didn't like the fact that he was spying on her at home. But can you call a man a dead beat if he didn't even know? I liked Returns for what it was. Hell, I saw it in the theater seven times.

I had a million ideas on how to fix a lot of the problems with that film with a follow up.

The Donner cut of Superman 2 starts up before the end of the first film. There is no time rewind to save Lois from being crushed in the car... That happens at the very end of the movie to undo all the damage that Zod and crew did. Which is what Donner wanted, that is what he had planned. Not sure if it was this Glade or 3.0 but Numbuk did a pretty good write up of it.

You forgot one of his best movies, some would say his best, Memento.

Memento, The Prestige, Inception. In that order.

Oh. That's actually a relief. I thought for a minute there, that I might actually be a hipster. I was going to have to go make all kinds of ill-advised purchases to change my wardrobe and whatnot.
