Is there any real evidence that the movie had anything to do with it. I've heard wild speculation on that but nothing solid. It could have just been what happened to be playing at midnight when the guy went crazy?

I think it was just a big event the wacko wanted to use to his advantage. Some have made speculations based on the idea that he had a Batman poster on the wall; he also had an Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy poster, but I've seen no speculation based on that.
