I believe it was way back on Interealms.

It was in whatever passed for a rants section on Sunmoon's board, not in the Real Life section.

I must admit it brings me no small amount of satisfaction that Taly's lifestyle of vile sinful faggotry has been more enduring than the marriages of most religious individuals I know.

Well, you can only be half satisfied. She's only half vile sinful faggot.

That's all wrong. Half the vile, sinful faggotry, but double the satisfaction.

I don't think "faggot" is fair. I've never heard Taly accuse people from Phoenix of being Phoenicians.

My first reaction to this thread was "I thought she was already in that arrangement." *shrug*

I have many friends with far more "interesting" relationships that yours isn't that much of a shock. As I told my neighbor when he was overtly worried about smoking on his front porch and tossing his butts on his lawn, "It's your house. What you do in your house doesn't affect me or bother me. As long as you're not beating your kids and wife or have a meth lab in your basement (because I've seen half of the condos I lived in burn to the ground because of one), then I truly don't care what you do and it's not my business to care."

To a lot of observers, it could have appeared that way. At one point, she even rented our tiny basement apartment, before she went and got a place of her own up the street.

Taly, you know you have my support in this. And, as it happens, I actually know a family in your situation, several years down the line. The kids are FINE. The father is no more diminished than the first child is diminished by the second child.

Come to Colorado some time, all of you, and I'll introduce you and we can all swap stories.

I've been told numerous times that Mom always liked me best. Mind you, this is the same ******* who got to stay up two hours later than me.

ROFL

Actually, no. I have an older sister and two younger brothers. Half-siblings, actually. Which makes me think about blended families... if mom and dad can divorce and remarry and that's perfectly OK, why is there such a problem with 'marrying' again without the divorce?

Update:
The kids were fine with it. My in-laws were great. (And I quote: "You thought we wouldn't understand? Honey, we grew up in the sixties.")

My parents are going to be the difficult ones. They're saved for last.

That was an awkward evening -- With amusing moments. Mother has a much harder time with this than dad.

My mom had major surgery a month ago, and is still recovering, isn't allowed to lift anything over five pounds. Dad hurt his back last week and can hardly move. So we showed up to clean their house and make them dinner last night.

It's hard to give someone the cold shoulder, show strong disapproval, or even give you dirty looks while you're making them dinner and cleaning their home as a favor. Mom said almost nothing all night, prefering to object to our cleaning and telling us we don't need to do that.

Dad managed these few gems in an attempt to remain friendly:
-"I forget. She's not Catholic, I hope?"
-"She's prettier than your husband."
-"See, this is inconvenient. Unlike you two, Lor drinks my Guinness."

That's an exceedingly good sign. Just have her bring a 6-pack every time you guys go over. I also shouldn't be surprised he drinks it, but your father has excellent taste.

You Mom is probably having a harder time with it, as Mom's are always harder on their daughters just like Dad's are harder on their sons.

But, it sounds like you're Dad at least has come to terms with it and is trying. As DE recommended a few Guinness' and time should do the rest.

Probably crossing their mind is the problem, if it was him we could be supportive of the daughter, but with it being J on this "situation" we kind of have to sit on our hands and not disapprove too loudly. It sounds like your dad already kind of likes Lorelei and this is conflicting his love of his family and his hard engrained moral code.

Deep inside Talya, you have to be doing just a little bit of gloating about that.

He's always liked Lor. Another thing he said to me, "I ne'er thought twice about it at the time, but she was always like one o' the guys when she'd come with you. Someone fun to have a pint with while watching a show. I never realized at the time it was because she was starin' at the same arses on the TV that I was."

So anyway, Dad's never been as socially conservative as mother. If someone was going to make a bigoted comment about homosexuality, it was always going to be her. When the Anglican Episcopal church in the USA ordained Gene Robinson as a bishop and sent the Anglican communion into near civil war, dad stood by the church, rather than joining up with the more conservative offshots. Mother, on the other hand...

She actually called me up this morning to apologize for all the things she's said in the past about gays that must have offended me.

I can't imagine how hard it was for her to do that.

Well, ultimately what it comes down to is that you're healthy, you're happy, and he has grandchildren. What more does your father want?
