No they're not, but they're created by people, invested in by people, represented by people. And employ people.

No, no, no, the lesson here is that the teenager stopped being a person when they put on their uniform. Therefore it deserved the berating it received.

Is her employment there voluntary association? I don't think she's complicit with anti-gay initiatives but nor do I think she is doing everything she can to demonstrate she feels otherwise.

Why should she have to in order to deserve basic civility.

Given the unemployment rate for young(er) people she may just be happy to have a job. After an encounter like this, assuming she was a-political before, I wonder what her opinions would be on the issue now.

This is silly. While what he did was somewhat controversial and unpleasant (videotaping without consent), it was hardly uncivil. He didn't personally disparage her, and in fact, you could make a case saying "she deserves better" is assuming she is a person of decent values.

This is being played up and blown out of context because there has been a lot of anti-Chick Fil-A vitriol which was uncivil. I find this to be a lot less offensive than some of the opinions that have been spewed out across various mediums the past week or so.

The wrong way to protest. ******* goes in, berates a teenage worker, records it and posts it, and his company fires him!

Thank you Uncle Fester. My hubby told me about this earlier but I haven't had a chance to search for it. He IS an ******* and had no business speaking to her like that about any of this.

Man, this Kathy dude should send the LGBT bunch a "thank you". I bet other chains are asking themselves why they didn't take this stance before.

CFA has raked in the dough.

People are some dumb sumbitches.

Do you think it was all a PR move to boost sales, Sam? (Incidentally, the VP of PR for CFA died of a heart attack during all of this...)

Fine Raf, so long as you'd feel the same way if it were a Christian and a Home Depot Employee. However Mr Smith went looking for this fight and she did not. He has only himself to blame and I'd feel the same way if this were on the other side.

Kate, It seems unlikely. Cathy made his remarks in a Baptist publication (hardly national news) in response to a question he was asked. CFA itself has been properly quiet during the whole thing, and the movement to counter protest was brought on my third parties.

Also in general I wonder if I seem less crazy when I say my concern is that gay marriage will be used to sledge hammer the rights of those who disagree on the morality of the issue. This incident hasn't done anything to convince me that they just want to live in peace and tolerance.

I'm sure most want to just live in peace and tolerance, but there's a vocal segment that desperately wants the same preferential treatment that other minorities get.

Feel what way? I don't feel any way about it except that it's being made out to be a bigger deal than it is. And yes, if that scenario happened, I'd feel the same way.

You'd think a guy named Adam Smith would prefer less ... visible ways of influencing the market.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism ... Apologizes

Stay classy NY times.

Quote:
Mark Bittman, a New York Times food critic, admits he used an "inappropriate phrase" in an August 3 blog posting about Chick-Fil-A. In fact, it was down right Bitter, man, because he seemed to be rejoicing that a vice president of the fast food company had died of a heart attack back in July.

Bittman apologized to his readers for the giddiness he displayed about the death of Chick-Fil-A's Vice President of Public Relations, Don Perry, who passed away on July 27.

Said the bitter foodie,

In a recent blog post, I used an inappropriate phrase to refer to the late VP of PR for Chick-fil-A. My choice of words did not rise to either my own standards or to The Times’s, and the phrase has been removed from the post. I regret this lapse.

What he said on August 3 deserved to be excised, too. It was pretty vile. Here is what was removed from the post:

Speaking of pigs, the VP of PR for Chick-fil-A dropped dead of a heart attack the week after the chain's latest homophobia/anti-gay marriage scandal. Here's an obit, and here's more about him. Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A had record-breaking profits after its President, Dan Cathy, drew a line in the sand over same-sex marriage.

Note that nearly every anti-Chick-Fil-A whiner out there has based his anti-ness on Chick-Fil-A's "hate," all the while wallowing in just as much hate as they claim to abhor. Meanwhile, no one can really find anything that either Dan Cathy or any of the causes and organizations that he supports have said or done that actually called for any hate to be visited upon anyone.
