How long was Romney gov of Mass? Is there anything he did that made the state more Jesusy?

Romney as President would be subject to very different political pressures than he was as Governor of Massachusetts, and he doesn't seem particularly resistant to such pressures. Also, the parties have become so polarized these days that we're practically living in a parliamentary system, so whatever Romney's personal views, a vote for him is, to a significant degree, a vote to move government policy closer to the median Republican position on most issues. Ditto for Obama and the Dems, of course, though I think party discipline is weaker on the left than the right these days.

So I take it you are regulary fined for not participating in some religion or another?(oh hey, guess which side of the party DOES fine you for not taking part in something) I take it people from the government show up at your house, guns drawn and force you down to your local church/mosque/tarbernacle/tree in the woods? People regularly burst into your bedroom and arrest you for performing an Alabama Jackhammer?

It can be a good gage of someones thought process and beliefs. I don't mean anything by it.

I'm 25 but that has as much to do with discussion as it does with the price of tea in China.

I have much the same stance as Lenas, and I'm 37.

In your opinion. But I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it.

1. LOL. How can you say that? Have you ever met the guy? Spent time with him? What would you need to hear to like him? Do you base your like and dislike of people soley on their politics? Did he insult your mother? Steal your girlfriend? I'm floored that you can make that kind of statement.

2. Move to Australia

Ahh, the "If you don't like it, leave" argument.

How about religion not taking part in policies? Y'know, we're not all good little churchgoing drones that live our lives by a 2000 year old book written by people that needed to exert a modicum of control over their populaces.

Not in my state at this point.

But I do regularly hear rhetoric from the Christian pastors and groups in my area that think the government should. Hence why religion, as it enters into politics, scares me.

That said, you don't seem to have read my statement. Note the "who want to dictate" rather than "who currently dictate"?

I form my opinions about his personality the same way 99% of Americans have to, through his speeches and interviews. If you make all of your political decisions based on what people support "officially" on paper instead of listening to what they say and how they say it, maybe you should be the one getting laughed at. I get the impression that Mitt Romney does not give one **** about me, so he will not get any support from me.

Ooooo...got me there! Hold on while I remove the puppet strings...

I didn't give an argument to anything, I just said move to Australia because their "president" is an atheist.

How about just not having an irrational fear of "religion" based on your own predjudices?

Religion is always going to "take part in politics" as long as there are religious people.

Where, exactly, are you "regularly hearing" this rhetoric?

Sadly.

How about religious people not having irrational fears of things that don't affect them one way or another instead of creating policy based on their own prejudices?

See, it cuts both ways.

People like Dennis Terry saying things along the lines of...

"If you don't like the way we do things... GET OUT! We don't worship Buddha, we don't worship Mohammed, we don't worship Allah... We worship God."

"The church needs to be the conscience of the nation"

Church sermons. The pastors and preachers in my wife's family. Op-ed pieces written by local pastors, preachers, and other religious leaders.

Who is Dennis Terry? Is he a politician or just a blowhard?

He's someone that has been given TV time while supporting a presidential candidate. The candidate in question was Rick Santorum, but Perry also had similar supporters.

Also, I find it great that Lenas doesn't want religion any where near his politics(the horror!) and is worried about people making outlandish statements so uses that to not like the Republicans...yet he is all for Obama who spent 20 years in a radical church with one of the most radical "men of God" you'll ever meet...

No, I'm afraid of anyone that holds public influence and tries to spread a message of intolerance.

Have you noticed that I'm answering all of your questions, and every single post you make is just trying to dismiss my opinion or move the goalposts?
