Only 48 dead? That's a shitty performance for a Typhoon. Maintenance must be pretty substandard.

I'm guessing the grass hut is more important to that guy than your house is to you. You can head to a shelter or hotel or something. It's pretty safe to assume that if you're living in a grass hut you don't have other options.
