So you can leave them on every device you own, and not have to endure the pain of actually having to move one, of course!

As for why not use micro-USB, it may not meet the power requirements.

Then its an inefficient power hog. Micro-USB is fine for most new phones. The HTC One-X, Samsung GS3, Galaxy Nexus, and even the Nokia Loomia 920 all use Micro USB no problem.

I can understand needing more power for a 10" tablet... but still.

Nor is it an Apple proprietary piece of hardware.

I have to say, this thread stinks of wahhh.

Ive had to upgrade docks when new iphone and ipod shapes are released. The phone comes with a cable & adapter included. It just isn't a big deal.

I agree microusb would be nice, but if lightning permits faster charge or smaller devices or quicker transfers, do I care?

No.

Its been the same adapter for what, 7 years?

Even if it adds no physical or electronic benefit to microusb, i find it hard to get het up about, beyond "that kind of sucks"

Apparently you will be able to get hdmi over lightning, which sounds ok if you want wires.

I've used the same $2 USB cable to charge every Android phone I've ever owned...

My wireless plan is up next month. Last time, my wife and I got these old-people flip phones that didn't have cameras. There was no text on the plan, and it was insanely hard to send a text longer than a short sentence, although it could be done. The numbers were large enough to be read from across the room.

They were also free.

Last year, my wife got what I think of as a semi-smart phone that has a screen and number pad on the front and slides open to reveal a keyboard when she washed her grandpa phone in the washer. It cost me $250.00.

I'm probably going to get a smartphone because I just cannot get people to quit texting me. At least my Reserve unit issued me a Blackberry, but that's a government phone, so I can't be using it for every damn stupid thing that comes down the pipe.

I'll tell you right now though, I am not getting a **** iPhone. 5 iterations in 5 years?

****.

That.

****.

I do not want my entire life to revolve around my phone. Features? Ok. Make me an armored phone that will survive me falling on it, being washed int he washing machine, and will hold a charge for at least 12 hours while still letting me GPS and text, and give it enough signal to hit a tower from **** nowhere. Then I'll be impressed. Use it to run a stereo? Sorry, this isn't Shadowrun.

/facepalm

Damn those technology companies for making better revisions of hardware and software on a schedule.

Every company does this. Samsung has made 3 Galaxy S phones in two years. Motorola shits out RAZR phones every quarter. Every one of HTC's million phones looks the exact same.

A new version every year is absurd. This is one of the reasons I've avoided getting a smartphone for so long.

A schedule? Fine. Slow the schedule down. I wouldn't buy an apple product in the first place though; this is just one more reason not to.

It's inevitable when consumers demand the latest and greatest at all times.

Smartphone technology has been advancing so quickly.. both in the devices power and capabilities, and it's network capabilities.

Apple iPhones already run behind the high-end android phones in pure power, and network speeds. Because they have only one device to compete against dozens of competitors, they have to keep putting out new hardware to stay relevant.

You only have to upgrade when you want to. When a feature comes out that justifies the expense. The nature and length of your contract will have some impact.

The devices are reliable enough that they should last very long, with the possible exception of batteries. If you are not someone to upgrade your handset frequently, I'd make sure you get one with a replaceable battery.

If you are with AT&T or Sprint, you might consider waiting for more LTE devices to come out (and the networks to spread/mature).

If you are with T-Mobile, HSPA+ is available in more areas, and is almost as fast as, or in some cases faster than LTE, and there are quite a few devices available now. LTE will be added to most of T-Mobile's network late 2013.

Then make the time between iterations of latest and greatest longer. Is the 5 THAT much better than the 4?

It's a nice bump.

But why does having a new one out inconvenience you at all?

It just makes the older ones cheaper. I consistently buy at least a generation back in apple products. Save a nice chunk of cash, and get a great device.

That said, I don't want a smartphone, so I wish that there were more highly functional dumb phones on the market.

I said nothing about being inconvenienced. I just dislike the phone craze that's gripped this country, and constant upgrades just encourage the lunacy.

All that's happening is that we have a broader idea of what a computer is. Design has branched out considerably to accommodate. We've reached the limit of what most people want to do with their desktops and laptops. We can make them more powerful, but most people really don't need that kind of juice. Instead, we reimagined what a computer is. Now a computer fits in the palm of your hand, and they receive the same attention from designers as the computers that sit on your desk.

And that sucks. People go around everywhere stuck with their nose in their phone. You can't even go out to dinner with friends without them constantly looking at the **** for one reason or another.

I mean, my phone's 8 or so years old, so... I'm probably not the best one to weigh in here.

Wow... is this the best response you can come up with?

Not terribly convincing.. although it doesn't take much for most Apple fanboi's...

Cheap Plastic?

I don't get that at all. Its thin polycarbonate, but I'd rather have that than a sheet of fragileass glass.

The A6 wasn't confirmed to be Quad-Core(IIRC), the front camera is better on the GS3, the GS3 does panorama in portrait or landscape...

Yeah, that "rebuttal" is ridiculous.
