So I used a Scroll of Resurrection on my second account.

Planning on boosting a char to 80, then transferring it to my main account.

My thing is, what class?

I've got an 85 Paladin, 80 Warrior and 80 Hunter, so it's not going to be one of those. I've got a Shaman and Druid sitting in the mid-60s, so probably not one of those.... Although I could use it to make a different race and not have to finish the Outlands -> LK grind.

I played a priest, but I really prefer healing on a Paladin.

Never really played a Mage much- how are they?

My first couple of question are: What types of playstyles do you enjoy (ranged, melee, magic, tanking, healing, dps, etc.)? Are you open to trying new playstyles or do you want to try to keep it in the realm of things you already enjoy? Is this for PVE or PVP?

I played a DPS warrior for the first few years of my WoW life. And the last class I ever thought I'd enjoy would be a rogue. But a while later I created a rogue and he turned out to be a pure joy to play. And then the last class I ever expected to enjoy was a death knight, and currently it's my main class (and one I love the most).

But I've played high level tanks, shaman dps and healing (turned my dps shaman into a main healer for raids), mages, warlocks, rogues, and DKs.

But again, to give you more details I need some questions answered about what types of playstyles you enjoy (or are willing to try).

To answer your question about mages, yes they are fun. The last time I raided as one was in WOTLK and there were two distinct varieties at the time. Arcane and fire (frost was really more PVP oriented, but great to level-up solo). Arcane mages did a lot of damage, but were the most boring spec I've ever played. Basically it was just hitting two buttons over and over and over again. "1. 1. 1. 1. 2. 1. 1. 1. 2." Soooooo...... boooooring. Fire was a lot more engaging and interactive based on cooldowns and procs and it was only marginally less damage than Arcane (I would have preferred Frostfire, but it's damage at the time began fall away too much but regular fire spec was the same rotation so it was easy to jump into). I haven't touched my mage in a few years, but that's more due to my personal playstyle being up close and smacking them with a weapon rather than attacking from ranged. It was a fun distraction for a while though.

I also never thought I'd enjoy being a healer, especially in raid situations, but I actually found it quite rewarding. There is a certain satisfaction from knowing that you are the silent, unsung hero of the group. And it's great putting ******* PUG tankers in their place. The ***** priority is as follows (as it pertains to progressing through a dungeon when you're ready): DPS players are the tank's *****, but the tank is the healer's ***** (and they hate it when you point that out). DPSers should not progress until the tank is ready, and the tank shouldn't progress until the healer is ready.

I always came back to playing melee DPS though.

So as of LK, I raided with ret/prot Pal, Fury/Arms warrior, and Surv/MM Hunter.

So they're all geared and ready to be dusted off, with the Pal leveled to 85 and re-geared with MoP greens.

Druid and Shaman were fun up until the 60s, at least- although the Ele Shaman was wearing on me, so I went Resto.

I've already got a rogue midway up in levels, and good heirlooms for it.

It's mainly a question of which of the classes do I not already have at 80 that I'd enjoy at 80. Especially for those classes that are much more fun/enjoyable at higher levels.

Currently, I'm thinking taking the druid to 80 sounds the most fun- and I've got the worst heirlooms for a feral druid.

I have played my Pal/Resto Shaman as healers, and that's fun- I did level a priest to 60 as well, but didn't like it much.

Pally is my favorite class, with Fury War a close second, by and large.

That's why my Hordie is a Paladin.

Oh, and to answer the question- I generally prefer melee, both ranged and not, and I don't mind tanking or healing.

But I'm open to trying new playstyles, too.

Haven't played a druid since WOTLK, but they can be fun. They are/were a jack of all trades type of class. When I played a feral DPS druid, I found it played very similar to a rogue. Except that I didn't have nearly as many awesome utilities a rogue did (and rogues get some really great ones at higher levels). I never feral tanked, but I had a friend who did. Personally, I didn't think it looked as fun as some other class tanks.

My wife played a balance druid and she really enjoyed it.

As far as tanking goes, I really enjoyed my DK tank spec. DKs are all about reactive tanking, so therefore it was far more engaging than just "grab aggro, keep aggro, wait for it to die, repeat." DKs don't get a shield, don't get much dodge, and don't get as much HPs as other tanks. So their power comes from the ability to heal back a percentage of damage done to them (as well as some other limited self-heals). And even that ability was a separator between the good DK tanks and the bad ones, as the power healed back a percentage of damage that you took in the last 5 seconds. Spamming it would work, but it was not nearly as efficiently as letting the damage stack up for 4-5 seconds and then using it, because you would also get a temporary hp shield based on the amount you healed yourself.

My favorite spec right now is Unholy because it combines a lot of fun factors. It has a permanent pet, so pet management comes into play. It works best with 2h weapons, and I love 2handers the best. It involves getting up close in melee and smacking stuff. And it's not boring because you have to manage both runes and runic power (and managing them correctly will put you light years ahead of others with the same class and spec).

I do find myself missing my rogue though, and that will likely be the class I go back to when I am on break from the DK. High level rogues are super fun. I really enjoyed the assassination spec. I understand they play a little differently now, but a lot of it looks fairly similar.

I guess another question to help me out is what exactly do you find fun when playing a class? Do you like the challenge of mastering a set of abilities, cooldown, and reactionary procs/powers? Or do you have more fun when you can just zone out and just do damage? For me, I can't stand the latter. I like the frenetic, whack-a-mole, best-judgment minigame that comes to play with certain classes and specs. And I like seeing my mastery of it shine in groups/raids (when I consistently out-dps a spec that is universally accepted as "better" I always grin quietly to myself).

It's nice to have a balance, honestly. Sometimes I don't mind the frantic pace, other times it really bothers me.

I never could get into my DK back in the day... Not sure why.

I've gotta connect with the char too, and I never really did with any of my DKs.

I enjoyed the DK storyline. And my own personal storyline for him is that my DK is the same character as my warrior (that I played for years), just that his story ended with the Lich King turning him into what he is today. I gave him the same look as my warrior and even a similar name. I view him as an immortal (undead) hero that society will never truly trust because of his supernatural state and his past affiliations. To me, that's a rather engaging hook: A monster seeking redemption and trust.

A thing to note is that they changed DKs pretty dramatically in Cata and play differently than they did when they were first introduced in WOTLK.

Sounds like it's worth giving them another try.

I got one to 70, and several to mid-60s in Wrath.
