The whole point of Smartglass is to push that content onto iPhone, Android and any smart device you have. I mean fantastic for the 1.9% (aka statistically likely to have accidentally selected I have a windows phone on the survey hehe) but that tiny market gets MS nothing.

Rumor says pricing is going to start at $599 (RT) and $999 (Pro).

That's pretty much what I expected.

I'll be ordering a Pro as soon as the local Microsoft Store will let me. :D

Rumor was right on the RT pricing. Microsoft just put them up for preorder.

$499 32gb
$599 32gb + keyboard
$699 64gb + keyboard

A "making of" article below. Some neat details include: 200 custom-made parts, 2 hour charging and the magnetic cover latch is strong enough to hold the tablet.

Well, *one* of the pricing rumors turned out to be accurate.

The $1,000 rumor was false and sadly, the $199 rumor that I was hoping for turned out to be false as well.

Why are you saying the $999 rumor was false when Microsoft hasn't announced the Pro pricing yet? Seems to be right in line with the hardware upgrades from the RT.

Edited my post to include links to the rumors I referenced. While a high-end Pro model might still come out with that price tag, the story is about a retailer pulling numbers out of their buttcrack.

Ah, my bad. Thought you were saying the Pro model would be >$1k.

Seems to me the best option available right now would be the $599 bundle with a 64gb sdxc card. Think I'll be getting one for my wife, but don't think I'll have the funds free in 10 days :[

MS said they had already made 5 million of them.

Where are you seeing sold out? Seems like you can still preorder one and get it by 10/26 from MS.

Surface RT reviews -
http://www.slashgear.com/surface-with-w ... -23253115/
http://gizmodo.com/5953866/microsoft-su ... heartbreak
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/23/micr ... rt-review/ - I think this one is the most well written. I'm surprised they liked it so much, they love Apple.

Engadget wrote:
Where does this one rate? Very well -- but very differently. While those devices are primarily targeted at content-hungry consumers, the Surface is a slate upon which you can get some serious work done, and do so comfortably. You can't always say that of the competition.

It's in the other half of the equation, that of the content consumption and entertainment, where the Surface is currently lacking. It needs a bigger pile of apps and games to make up for that and, while we're sure they're coming, we don't know when. If those apps arrive soon, then early adopters will feel vindicated. If, however, the Windows RT market is slow to mature, not truly getting hot for another six months or so, holding off will prove to have been the smarter option.

I was waiting on reviews of this before I bought anything as I have neither an Ipad or any other tablet. I think right now I'll go for an IPad 4 and then see what the Surface Pro can offer me.

I think the Surface would be an excellent laptop replacement for me. Heavy browsing, some posting and even some light Word and Excel stuff. You get a keyboard, USB port and super portable. Battery life looks to be on par with the IPad too.

IPad apps and family use, Surface for me and only me =p

Just picked up the 32GB Surface today, and the 'Type Cover'.
Tried out both covers in-store but didn't like the 'Touch Cover' as much.

So far, totally stoked about this thing.
It makes me happy :)

Yeah, you think I'd get myself the RT? I'm waiting for a Pro! :D

Out of curiosity - why the Pro over the RT?

I was originally considering it - saving up my pennies and getting the Pro but when I started thinking about it, I couldn't come up with any solid arguments in its favor.
The Pro will cost more, will not come with Office, and while the ability to install anything & everything sounds nice, the locked-down nature of the RT suggests to me that I'm less likely to brick the thing by messing with it too much.

When I decided to be honest with myself, what I realized I really want out of a tablet is "do stuff my smart phone does, but on a bigger screen". For me, a full-blown OS in a tablet form-factor is overkill.

I run a lot of stuff that I don't see coming to the Microsoft Store. The Adobe suite and FTP programs being the big ones. I also need to be able to install different browsers.

I'm also looking forward to the pen that comes with the Pro.

Pro just got priced. $899 for the 64gb, $999 for 128gb. Comes with a pen but keyboard covers are still extra.
