Kim Jong-Un ordered him executed because he was "drinking and carousing" during the 100 day mandatory imposed mourning period for his father, Kim Jong-Il. The order was to leave no trace of him whatsoever, down to his hair.

Just. Wow.

Spoiler:
NORTH Korean leader Kim Jong-un cruelly executed a military minister with a mortar shell - for boozing during the official mourning period of his father.
Reports say army vice minister, Kim Chol was blown up after the tubby dictator heard he had been drinking merrily.
The Communist Party chief ordered to leave "no trace of him behind, down to the hair," the Daily Telegraph said.
Experts believe that Mr Kim, who took over from his father Kim Jong-il, has purged 14 senior officials in a bid to maintain power in the starving nation.
A source told the Chosun Ilbo newspaper: "When Kim Jong-un became North Korean leader following the mourning period for his father in late December, high-ranking military officers started disappearing."
The source added: "From information compiled over the last month, we have concluded that dozens of military officers were purged."
A 100 day period of mourning was imposed after Kim Jong-il's death in December last year.

I would love to be surprised, but this is exactly what I expect of the Norks.

That seems more humane than most of our methods. At the least it is guaranteed to be instantaneous.

Um, we execute people too. So this is not shocking in comparison to our country.

Our criteria for the executions are a little on the "different" side.

Are they?

Executive decides you are X, government takes you and kills you , no need for trial, evidence, lawyers, investigation, anything.

Do we execute people BY MORTAR because they weren't appropriately sad during their "Dear Leader's" mandatory 100 day mourning period?

So yes, this is a little shocking in comparison to our country.

The reasons and methods of how we execute people are just details, the fact is we are killing unarmed people on purpose.

We don't use the electric chair anymore.

As for it being painless, well, that depends a lot on the size of the mortar round. The smaller, more common sizes probably result in some fairly painful bleeding to death.

If they used some monstrous 160mm or 240mm size that the Soviets built to no apparent purpose, that might be more instantaneous.

Okay, this should not be taken to mean that executing people without trial for suspicion of terrorism is a morally upright action.

However, if you can not see a difference between the execution of a person suspected of causing large-scale property damage and loss of human life, and ordering someone executed in such a fashion that the body is erased for the crime of drinking during the mandatory mourning period for your father - the rest of humanity doesn't need to involve you in the discourse.

Yes, telling someone their opinion should be excluded from discussion - because...well just because you want to doesn't exactly ring with resounding support for your ability to be reasonable.

In either case there is no trial and a person is killed via whim of the executive. Oh the individual whims and reasoning given behind enforcement of those whims may be confined to whatever doesn't cause the public to revolt...but it is still execution via fiat.

I really can't bring myself to do more than chuckle at this report. You'll have to excuse me if I don't have much sympathy for a murdered army minister who was part of the system of oppression and lunacy that is NK.

And as some have already commented, in all reality his execution (assuming there wasn't torture before hand) was actually more humane than any we perform here in the US because it was instant and exceedingly thorough.

Are you the same person who claims people cannot overcome "systemic racism" or the capitalist system that holds down the poor?

Buy a guy in country who gets shot for fleeing, mortared for drinking...

When have I ever claimed that people can't overcome systemic racism? And I have no idea where your second point comes from.

My point is that karma is a *****. This minister was a high level official in the NK army. The same army that has forwarded untold atrocities upon it's citizens. You'll excuse me if I don't shed a tear for him, and find some schadenfreude that he was killed, rather impressively, by the same system he helped perpetuate.

You guys really need to stop with this idea that execution by mortar shell is somehow more humane than execution by lethal injection.

Well, that depends. I mean, was he allowed to run through a field, and if he makes it to the other side, he goes free?

Or, was he handed a mortar shell and told to stand over there and BOOM?

I'm going to assume the former...because it's entertaining.

I am shocked he didn't have a vat of acid on hand. Or a pool of sharks.

I'm sure that the fact that his own military killed him with his own military weapons was, in no small part, meant as a message to the the rest of them, that he wasn't josh'n...

I mean, If I were in the military, and word came down from the 'Big Man', that the Base Commander (or whoever he was) was to be strapped into a broken down jeep and sent down range, and used for mortar target practice... That would definitely get my attention...

Ahah! Little known fact, he tried that first. Unfortunately his sharks dissolved.
