This is an article I read a while back. I lost track of it until recently when I was reading on Harmony Central about some bar band getting a takedown notice for posting a video of them covering one of his tunes.

After some searching, I managed to track it down.

I won't post the text. I don't want Don Henley's Lawyers suing Dash or Mookhow :p

If nothing else, he's a hypocrite. The lyrics to the Henley/Frey song "Get Over It" includes this gem

Common quotes with the slightest of recognition generally aren't even considered plagiarism let alone piracy.

Doesn't mean that I agree with him though.

Also it seems to me that the original article has some good points. Things like bootleg DVDs and related websites where people actually make money off his ip should be dealt with. Protect ip probably isn't the answer though.

Bootleggers are often a band's most loyal fans, and bring in more revenue than they block. Music doesn't work quite like movies. Bootleg DVDs are the same movie, recorded in the theater and released early before the official date. Bootleg albums are recorded at concerts, and more often than not will never be released as live albums.

In order to create a bootleg album, you have to attend the show. It goes further. A popular sentiment among music bootleggers is not to sell, but to trade. I've got the show in Miami from 1983, which you didn't get to attend because you lived in LA. You've got the show in Philly from 1979. We make copies and swap.

From the band's perspective, every time they go on tour, they can count on you and I to show up. We're their life's blood. A band doesn't make it without those fans.

Last time I priced tickets to an Eagles concert, they were $350 for general seating (in the grass, no chairs, etc....)

Seriously, fsck Don Henley

Some of his bandmates wrote a book about the nightmare that it was being in that band with him and Frey.

I love their music. Henley always seemed like a real *******, though.

I am shocked that a 65-year old musician is Internet-retarded.

I am surprised anyone really gives a **** about anything Don Henley has to say since it is no longer 1980 something. he was only mediocre when he was relevant. Don Henley was the Nickelback of the 70s and 80s

LOL, well, if you don't count his time with the Eagles, his solo stuff might be along those lines.

The Eagles were the most successful band in history in terms of total album sales, singles, radio air play, and individual album sales (Hotel California).

If you consider his entire body of work, Nickelback isn't even in the same galaxy as Don Henley.

the Eagles as a whole are awesome, they are also awesome without Don Henley. Don Henley himself... asshat. Who is so much of an *** that he easily takes up the ego space of all of nickelback.

This. Comparing him to Nickleback is almost offensive. No one deserves that.

If you include consecutive sold out performances and total profit-generating revenues, they are 4th: The Dead, The Stones, The Beatles, The Eagles, respectively.

He had a couple good songs on his own.

I like them a lot less now, since I've learned that he's kicking people off of youtube for posting bar band covers of his songs.

I don't get the Nickelback hate. Strippers deserve new music too! Do you realize it's been over 20 years since "Unskinny Bop" was released? Plus, Prince has turned into a Jehovah's Witness and gone crazy(er).
