This.. this is why this whole process seems disingenuous. The party that claims as one of their pillars, that they want to reduce gov't control over private lives....... arguing so hard for increased ability of the gov't to track individuals.

That is the only legitimate function of government.

IDing people at the polling place represents no meaningful increase in ability to track anyone.

Please. A fake Id is ridiculously easy to obtain. You think anyone determined to commit vote fraud is going to be stopped by any means that are not more invasive than you want to make them???? You think your average poll worker with that 2 hour training is going to be able to spot a fake id better than your average bar bouncer???? Most poll workers I've encountered are septuagenarians with failing eyesight. They can barely read the names in the book.

A single fake ID may be easy to obtain, but getting hundreds would be fairly difficult.

It is not hard to train someone to spot a fake ID, most fake IDs are not of good quality, and there's these nifty things called "glasses". Otherwise, how are these people with "failing eyesight" supposed to work in a poll at all?

Well we all know that the underage are never able to drink in bars so clearly state issued ID cards will also prevent vote fraud.

Maybe we should just give bartenders a book that contains the name of everyone who is of legal drinking age and customers can just provide their name as proof of age.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how a voter ID law would somehow have helped at all in the example provided here.

Now, if we want to have a discussion around how to beef up the quality of polling place oversight and management I'm all for it. To me, that is where the problem is.

If you have to scan your ID to vote then votes to ids must be 1-to-1 ratio.

Sounds good. What do we do about mail in (absentee) ballots? In my state, that would be 100% of them...

Because bars really care about spotting false IDs if they can make more money.

You're just goingf from argument to argument in desperation.

Why don't we just ink dip fingerprints and remove absentee and early voting?

It works for scores and scores of years and still works for a lot less "evolved" countries, what's the problem using it here?

Because that would be a solution. Solutions aren't weapons. Problems are weapons.
