Just got back. I still maintain that Craig-era movies break the mold of what should be a Bond film in a lot of respects, but this was a solid entry into whatever mold Craig's films are establishing. The climax definitely forged into new territory for environs and situations for Bond, which was refreshing and interesting on the one hand, and slightly jarring as a break from the formula on the other.

Personally, I was never a fan of James Bond movies until the Craig ones (I honestly don't think I've ever seen an older one from start to finish). There was always too much of a disconnect between myself and the protagonist. Craig's Bond grounds the character more for me.

Very good film. Not sure I like it more than 'Casino Royale' (which I rewatched about a week ago and it's risen in my esteem), but very good. Hands-down the best intro credits sequence of any Bond film (indeed, I'd put them up there with the all-time greats), and the cinematography is easily the best and most gorgeous I've ever seen in an action film. This is Dench's chance to shine, and she takes it; Craig is good, but this shaken (not stirred) post-death Bond felt a bit odd to me. Bardem is...memorable, if somewhat out of place. He felt much more like an old-school Bond villain than a Craig-era one. All in all a great entry, even if some parts seem a bit out of place in the film as a whole.

I have seen Skyfall, and I believe this movie firmly establishes Daniel Craig as the definitive Bond actor. I would also like to say that I disagree with FarSky's assessment of Mr. Silver. He's certainly a Craig-era Bond villain for a lot of reasons, and Bardem's performance was magnificent. All in all, it was extremely well-played.

My favorite Bond film ever.

Very meh for me really. I thought it had an old time Bond feel as well but I do like Bond having more of a rough edge than the perfection polish of older versions.

I very much enjoyed the movie. However as a small rant, I really hope this is the last of the new Bond films that spends so much time on exposition of Bond's origins. 3 movies worth are more than enough IMHO.

We enjoyed it. The tips of the hat to the old Bond movies were great. (Now I suppose I should see QoS, since it's the only Bond movie I haven't seen.)

I haven't seen Quantum of Solace (I have it on Blu-ray, but the middling reviews keep putting me off of actually watching it). Skyfall is rising in my esteem as I think back upon it (and I'm almost willing to pay the money to see it again in IMAX because holy **** cinematography and opening sequence). Bardem is excellent as always, but he had a theatrical air that flirted with being over the top, a quality I associate much more with the outsized Bond villains of old than the newer, more grounded world of James Blond.

Let's presume somebody thought that Casino Royale was stupid, and Quantum of Solace literal garbage. How would that person like this movie?

I really liked The World is Not Enough...aside from the asinine inclusion of Denise Richards' "Christmas Jones" (a character name that exists solely to have a terrible pun on which to close out the film).

The other two Brosnan films were junk, though. Particularly Die Another Day. What a stinker as a tenure-closer for Brosnan.

He's referring specifically to the three I listed as being among my least favorite. I actually liked Goldeneye. The rest, not so much. I will admit that my entire aversion to The World is Not Enough may be due to a complete suspension-of-disbelief failure caused by Denise Richards claim to be a nuclear physicist. From there, the movie lost me.

Certainly more entertaining than the 2 convoluted and stupid plots that are the Daniel Craig Bond movies thus far.

Not sure how I'd actually rank those though.


Casino Royale was blatantly stupid: "He's at the table! He's at his car! He's at the table! He's at his car!" Junk.

Quantum of Solace had a somebody trying to write a twisty, cool plot. They failed. Their plot failure killed the movie. And the movie that was killed contained Olga. That's hard to do.

with the exception of Moonraker (which I only dislike because it is a blatant remake of the previous movie, The Spy Who Loved Me), all the movies I listed make Austin Powers look like a serious attempt at a non-comedic spy movie. They are all pure corn.

The biggest reason he is the worst spy is he just tells people his name.

I enjoyed this movie. It is the first of the Daniel Craig Bonds that I have enjoyed, though for no fault of Craig's.
