Amanar raises a salient point. Now that we've gotten the obligatory Wii bashing out of our systems, I'd point out that kids usually ask for particular video game systems because of some game or another they like and want to play.

Is there an app for the Kindle Fire that your daughter really liked? Do other tablets have the same app, or one just like it? I'd find that out first.

If she does want a Kindle Fire for some particular app, and the same thing is available for the Nexus, get her a Nexus and put that app on it for her.

If she explicitly asked for the Kindle Fire... I'd probably just go with that. It's not like there is that much of a difference between them. If you think about it from her perspective, getting her the Nexus could be similar to a kid asking for a Nintendo Wii and then their clueless parent goes out and buys them this because it was on sale and looks similar enough. I mean, I know it wouldn't be the same as that... but she's 11. I don't think she's going to be disappointed with the Kindle Fire HD. Just my 2 cents.

My first reaction as well. I just needed to do my research first. Thanks all for the help. I'll be getting myself the nexus soon.

Two questions (sorry they are dumb):
1) Does one-click work on the Amazon website for you from another device?
2) Under the My Account settings have you tried deregistering and reregistering the device?

I like this concept. I'm a bit worried that this thread basically says ditch the Kindle Fire and pick up the Nexus 7 though. I assume this service is only available on the Kindle? And 2.99 per month sounds good until you realize it's 9.99 for multiple kids without all the premium memberships. That's going to add up.

My thought was that Amazon is already offering a pretty damn good value proposition with Prime, especially now that they offer XBox support, and this just sweetens the pot. Definitely not for everyone but also worth checking out if you've invested in the Kindle.

We say ditch the Fire and get the N7 because Amazon Flavored Android tastes like liquid monkey ***.
