I got rear ended by a drunk driver today at 6 PM. I was at a dead stop. Witnesses say he didnt even tap his brakes. Pushed me across a sidestreet and into 3 other cars. I never even saw him, just the flash of my airbag deploying. My car is a total loss and my shoulder hurts. The cop told the receptionist at the PD that i had no business walking away from that crash. All i can think about is to hope that if i dont die in my sleep i hope i die in a car crash because it was so insanely fast. It was so utterly and irrevocably instantaneous.

OMG yes. I've been in only one significant accident. Head-on collision and OMG the raw power of it. I was for the most part unhurt, but I'm certain the accident rattled my soul. Oh, and airbags for the win. It felt like someone putting a pillow over my face and kicking me in the head, but I'll take it.

Glad you're ok.

How scary!! So glad you are alright! Rest as much as you can and feel free to talk about it or even seek counseling for a couple weeks....something so traumatizing and, like you put it, "instantaneous," can really mess with your head if you let it.
On another note....I hope you called Richard Schwartz and got your fat check. Have fun in the bahamas! :-)

Thanks all for the well-wishes.

Yesterday I went to my car to clear out all my belongings and it was a wreck. On the front end the AC Condenser got smashed into the radiator into the engine block angling down about 45 degrees (from getting wedged under the SUV), the back windshield was gone, 3/4 doors don't work, there is literally no trunk left, his front end was inside the trunk resting on the spare tire and the backseat was bulging in the middle (what I thought was his bumper was that distortion); since that is where the Honda battery system is for my hybrid I am betting that alone totals it but when added to the other damage... Time to start car shopping I suppose.

Then today I went to the PD to complete the release form for the insurance and they gave me a copy of the accident report. The guy blew a .299 and according to police was travelling 35+ MPH when his inertia met my resistance. Fortunately it appears he was/is insured so there is that. Still no major pain, just a sore shoulder that stops barking with two motrin.

My car was declared a total loss, signed over the title and got a check today. Time to see if my bank will waive the hold time for out of state checks and start shopping.

I've narrowed it down to:

Civic - due to personal high survivability experience
Sonata - more features than any other vehicle in the class and the warranty is massive, plus the 2013 looks SHARP
Fusion - because Mexican auto workers need love too (I like the new style)
Accord - same as the Civic with a touch more room and features
I had a Subaru Impreza WRX on the list but the gas mileage (13 based on the engine I'd want) I had to scratch it.

On visuals alone I'd go Fusion, and I hate Honda so second would be Sonata.

Mazda3 > Civic. (Hell, go with the Skyactive model...the combustion engine that has hybrid-makers pissed off because it blows them away for mileage and price.)

None of those vehicles are cool.

Plus, the 3 looks cool. Especially in Mazdaspeed trim.

I take that back, the WRX is cool.

And the only cool Civic is the 2 door one.

I've skipped away from two total losses in Civics this last one being the most traumatic. That's not a fluke, that is a solid car.

/edit besides, don't you own a Yellow car? :D

Nah, there were financing issues. Dealership changed the terms making the payment too high. But yellow or not, the GTO was super cool.

Now, I have a not entirely cool Traverse :)
