Yeah, we didn't do so well on that score, either. 100-degree summer days with a hot breeze really sucked, but thankfully this isn't AZ or NV.

Nice pic, Farsky. So as not to continue derailing, here's a WWII German self-propelled gun that I need help identifying (are you there, DE?!):

Image

OK, never mind, DE. I found it by working backwards from German armored vehicle chassis and looking at self-propelled gun variants. This is based on a Pzkpfw I chassis, mounted a 150mm gun, seeing action in Poland, France, and Russia. I think the picture with the "704" machine is from mid-1943 in Russia. I found a picture of another one with similar markings, and the site says that the last ones were with the 704th schwere Infanteriegeschütz Abteilung of the 5th Panzer Division in Russia at that time.

That reminds me of something interesting I learned recently:

Wikipedia wrote:
Ross enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 18; he had quit high school in the 9th grade. The Air Force transferred him to Eielson Air Force Base (in Alaska), where he first saw the snow and mountains that later became recurring themes in his artwork. He developed his quick-painting technique in order to be able to create art for sale in brief daily work breaks.[4] Having held military positions that required him to be, in his own words, "mean" and "tough," "the guy who makes you scrub the latrine, the guy who makes you make your bed, the guy who screams at you for being late to work," Ross decided that if he ever moved on from the military, "it wasn't going to be that way any more," vowing "never to scream again."[4]

There must be at least one person on earth who can say, "I once made Bob Ross scream at me" :psyduck:

:psyduck: is definitely right.

That picture loses a few points for not using a fan brush, though.

Say wha? That big brush was one of Bob's favorites!

But the fan brush was what he used for all those happy trees. The big brush was, IIRC, generally used for creating ripples on reflections and the like.
