Looks nice, congrats. Bikes are just light-years beyond what they used to be the last time I looked at them.

I'm still a steel guy, but that's probably just me being obstinate. I like that yours has a carbon fiber fork, that should help with the road shock (along with all the CAD and design work that goes into the aluminum now).

I'm super stoked. It'll be nice to have a front fork that isn't all floppy. My MtB has a soft nose and I've never liked it.

That bike is going to kick your *** after riding the Mt Bike with a suspension fork. You'll feel every single pebble right up from your tail bone to your skull.

The trade off of the stiff frame is obviously efficiency, especially for climbing.. you'll feel like the thing has a motor. There is a lot less wasted energy because it's transferred more efficiently to the wheels (as opposed to flexing the frame).

I remember when I got my first aluminium/composite back in the late 80's (switching from a CroMoly steel frame). It was a Cannondale, but had much larger diameter tubes. We used to call them Beer Can Bikes. :p It was a serious love/hate thing for me. I was doing some racing back in those days in Colorado Springs, and appreciated the efficiency, especially on long climbs, but long training rides were a ***** for the shock fatigue...

I'm old and fat now, and don't ride much, so I'm back on CroMoly.

Anyway, I hope you have fun with it.. Just be safe.. cycling is dangerous :p

I knew guys who used to scrape off the lettering so that it read "Can o ale". Always wanted one, just for that.

I'm hoping he's aware of the aluminum tradeoffs. The carbon fiber fork should help. But, yeah, I've been riding a steel mountain bike with a front shock for so long, it's weird to think of any other configuration now.

Yeah, most of the riding I do is MUP anyway, and its pretty well maintained.

There's supposed to be some "micro suspension" thing that the chainstays have, but I don't know if that's just marketing BS or actual troof.

The CF front fork should help somewhat too.

Within 6 months, the groupset will likely be Force or Rival. Probably 12 months to new wheels

The dork disk has to wait a bit tho. As well as the fat stack of spacers under the stem. I'm not that aero yet.

Also, oh god, I hate the cranks. I was going to replace the brifters to force/rival first... but that crankset has *got* to go.

Rode for 30 mins on the trainer tonight, it feels a lot different. I love it.

Also, I figured I probably *should* get a helmet. My LBS just got these in yesterday. (Spoilered for hugeness)


I don't know if Cdale did this on purpose, but my Radars fit in there perfectly.

Well, perhaps *love* is a bit strong. Its smooth, quiet and gives good resistance.

I would much rather be outside though. But sometimes its dark, cold, wet, etc.

I don't mind the chrome in general. I'm sure its quite nice on some bikes. It just doesn't look right to me on here.

First outdoor ride... she accelerates like she's got rocket boosters. Comin from a 30ish pound 21spd mountain bike to this...

Its a bit of a paradigm shift. I just *wanted* to keep going hard. But that little voice in the back of my head was "Dude, Um... your HR's 175. Slow the eff down."

You measuring your cadence? Typical new roadie mistake is to mistake pushing hard with better; better to be pushing easy at say 90-100rpm...

Yeah, trying to keep my cadence ~80 or so. I don't have enough cardiovascular awesome to stay much higher. Just have to figure out what gears do what with that cadence.
