The Glade 4.0

I have no experience with this, and have had poor results trying to use google for help.

A co-worker has been tasked with setting up six displays (46" 1920x1080 Samsung LCD) as operations/monitoring screens in a new facility we are moving into.

Were trying to figure out if it's best just to run one beefy system with six outputs, or six smaller systems with one each (or somewhere in between).

They will be presentation only (not actively used), and will be mostly displaying web pages (NagVis) and possibly PowerPoint slides. The systems themselves will be about 100 feet (cable run) to where the panels are mounted.

Anyone have any suggestions?

When you say operations/monitoring, are you referring to the network equivalent of one of these systems? Obviously there are some differences, such as you're not looking at camera feeds.

Unless you need to really run PowerPoint, I'd think about getting a couple of stick computers. You could export the PowerPoint stuff as jpeg or whatever. As long as the monitor has hdmi, you won't need to run cables, either.

Put the desired context or links or whatever on a sd card and run with it.

I'd opt for 2 or 3 computers rather than one, personally. At some point, that machine is going to need a re-boot and taking down all 6 of your displays at once isn't exactly the most desirable of scenarios.

Yea, that is probably the route we'll take.

We tried the android sticks (two different versions of the RikoMagic MkII and MkIII). I kinda like them for personal use on my older not-so-smart TV for things like Netflix and Slingbox, but they really aren't suitable for this situation. They are a little to flakey, unstable, and there is zero support for them if there are issues. There are also usability concerns with the admin folks who will be maintaining the displays.

I've talked the project guy down off of the 'Six displays on one PC' idea. We'll probably end up with something like a basic NetTop strapped to be back of each TV.

This is the most technically feasible. The only challenge left now is how to control them individually with wireless mouse/keyboards (they are all in a line along one wall in our new office).

Here is a picture of the wall where the six LCD's will hang.

The cubes are still being built, but once they are done, a bunch of IP engineers will be sitting in these cubes. The picture is taken from the entrance to the room from outside, so that is the first thing people will see when they come into the area.

The 6 screens will display monitoring and status information for the systems/network in the datacenter that is on the opposite side of the wall. One or two of the screens will run powerpoint slides with project status on them.

It's mostly just for show, as alarming and monitoring is already happening separately.

I think we've decided on the mini/nettops with some kind of KVM to control them locally when necessary, but will use VNC/RDP to do most stuff.
