Ontario has some of the toughest anti-emissions laws in the world, and they keep getting tougher. Every automobile 7 years old or older has to get an emissions test, every 2 years, to keep it on the road. Those tests keep getting tougher to pass, and now include items that have no relation whatsoever to actual emissions. Now, the laws have become so strict that brand new cars would often fail (except that they're exempt from testing for 7 years.)

Guess who has the biggest lobby for stricter emissions laws? Would you believe the automobile industry? What? Why would the auto industry continues to lobby for tougher emissions restrictions and global warming laws?

Think about it. They've made it so expensive to keep an old car on the road, that it is cheaper for people to just buy newer cars!

Yes, very environmentally responsible, Ford/GM/Chrysler! Thank you for keeping your factories in Ontario running to employ all those people. I'm sure your blackmail was worth every cent.

For many years the auto industry relied on the fact that after 100,000 miles most of the vehicles they built were falling apart, then came a big influx of foreign vehicles at lower prices that lasted a lot longer. it took many years for them to catch up from that. This strategy in not surprising, planned or forced obsolescence, They want you buy a new car. Keeps them in business

People ***** and cry about planned obsolescence, but if you look at, say, consumer electronics, you will see the benefits of such a model.

Compare automobiles of today with older models. Certain features that are legally required today before the vehicle can be manufactured and sold did not even exist at some point in the past. Sometime in the future, we will produce safer automobiles with better fuel economy just as surely as we're producing faster computers and sharper televisions.

Legislating this planned obsolescence under the pretense of "helping the environment," however, is despicable.

Legislating any positive behaviors unders the pretense of "helping the environment" is despicable.
