Just had a toasted onion bagel with cream cheese that one of my coworkers brought in for the office.

What makes a bagel so much more delicious-er than normal bread, rolls and such?

I do so love a nicely toasted bagel with cream cheese. Also, there is nothing I love for breakfast more that a egg, cheese and Bacon/sausage/porkroll on the same nicely toasted bagel.

What makes them so good?

 LOL!

This reminded me of a joke:

What is the difference between karate and judo?

Spoiler:
Karate is a martial art used to defend oneself. Judo is what bagels are made of.

It's my theory that God told Moses how to bake bagels on Mount Sinai, and all the crap in the Torah/Old Testament about unleavened bread and manna is just a joke played upon the rest of the world.

No, no. This has nothing to do with it. It's the resemblance of the bagel to the doughnut. The deliciousness of doughnuts is thereby transferred to the bagel.

My new office is right next to an Einstein bros bagel shop. Very dangerous for me. I love their bagels.

I wish they still had their jalapeno bagel, but that was discontinued ten years ago our so.

Einstein Brothers isn't awful, but they're no Brueggar's.

The true test of a bagel shop is their Pumpernickel.

The process that makes bagels, the lack of sugary sweetness, the amazing assortment of varieties, the thickness and density of the bagel, all add to the great gestalt that makes the bagel a perrenial favorite. We have a Noah's Bagels near the office and people occasionally bring in some to share, with schmears. Wonderful tradition.

Everything bagel FTMFW. Preferably with lox and cream cheese (or salmon cream cheese, to make it easier).

(Actually, it might be the flour, Foamy. I've started making my own bread, and looking at bread flour vs. regular all-purpose, vs. cake flour, etc., I learned that bread flour is good for bagels and breads that should be chewier. It has a higher level of proteins (gluten) that trap more yeast, etc. Could also be the salt water that they're boiled in, I think that's what does it for me. I'm a salt-fiend.)
