You. You are seriously asserting that the student body at Berkeley is not almost compeltely liberal? Why would a conservative subject themselves to 4 years at such a place?
UC-Berkeley happens to have some programs that are top 5 in the world for the various areas of study. And conflating Berkeley County with the University is probably not a legitimate tactic of argument.
After turning down Berkeley when I first moved to CA because of the whack-o leftism that is rampant there, and obtaining a degree from a less prestigious school, I recently completed postgraduate work at Berkeley solely because of the standing Boalt Hall has - it was undeniable. However, it is just as undeniable that the school is teeming with lefties, both in the faculty and the student body.
The "protesters" were made up of a mix of ideologies (90% left, 10% "other") the vandals were undeniably (there's that word again) bent left.

The detonation of nuclear weapons is strictly prohibited by city law.
That's hilarious.
Sadly, it's not only Berkeley that is that arrogantly stupid, there are a few CA towns that made similar ordinances. I'm not really sure how the Berkeley Nuclear Engineering Dept. even exists.
Here's an article regarding the freaking library needing a waver from the city (Peace and Justice Commission - I kid you not) in order to contract with 3M to service check-out scanners.
