Have you done your gear ratios? I used to do that in the old days, but I don't know how everything stacks up nowadays when you have 8 or 9 cogs on the back. But you may find that small ring in front/fourth cog in back or something is easier, say, than large ring/third cog, etc.

Haven't done it in a while, though (haven't bought a new bike for myself in 20 years), so I'd have to look it up again.

Yeah, I lost track of how many they can squeeze on back there. Note the "no new bike in 20 years" thing :D

That's good advice Aeth.

I have the bad habit from my MtB of never shifting out of the big dog cause a 44 was more than low enough for anything I was doing.

The big is a 50 now, and the back is a 12-28. So I may want to try playing around with the front crank a bot.

Two in one day. Breathtaking lack of focus on my part today. Sad part, neither one was my fault.

First Blood - Lay the bike down at a speed > 15 mph.
Weebles Wobble but Bikes Fall Down - Lay the bike down at a speed < 1 mph.

As a side note. Hate kids. >.> Especially the super oblivious ones.

This is pretty much what I envision every time I read the thread title.

First week of April, 53 miles. Highest single week total thus far.

Yesterday, I finally had occasion to shift out of the big ring. Damn near ran out of gears at the conclusion of my ride. I knew going down the initial hill, that it would suck *** to go back up after I was tired... but I didn't know how much climbing I was in for during my ride. New area, and for me, there was *lots* of up.

Up sucks. http://app.strava.com/activities/47565303

But, I made it around, and back up, and felt actually pretty good about 20 minutes later.

We used to eat at a restaurant that had vintage ads printed on its tablecloths, and one of those ads was for a Velocipede. We pictured the same thing (but velociraptor-sized, not centipede-sized), and concluded that it was, in fact, the most terrifying thing ever.

First ever 20 mile ride. Into the teeth of a 20mph headwind most of the way, but I beat it down ;)

We'll see how it goes.
