Not the expected ending to this story.

Also. Worst. 911. Operator. Ever.

One of those kids was from my mom's school ~10 years ago or so.

Between this and Anthony Sowell killing those 11 girls over 15 years or so, Cleveland PD doesn't inspire much confidence.

Amanda Berry: Help me. I'm Amanda Berry.

Dispatcher: You need police, fire, ambulance?

Ms. Berry: I need police.

Dispatcher: OK, and what's going on there?

Ms. Berry: I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for 10 years, and I'm—I'm here. I'm free now.

Dispatcher: OK, and what's your address?

Ms. Berry: 2207 Seymour Avenue.

Dispatcher: 2207 Seymour. Looks like you're calling me from 2210.

Ms. Berry: Huh?

Dispatcher: Looks like you're calling me from 2210.

Ms. Berry: I can't hear you.

Dispatcher: Looks like you're calling me from 2210 Seymour.

Ms. Berry: I'm across the street; I'm using the phone.

Dispatcher: OK, stay there with those neighbors. Talk to police when they get there.

Ms. Berry: (Crying)

Dispatcher: OK. Talk to police when they get there.

Ms. Berry: OK. Hello?

Dispatcher: OK, talk to the police when they get there.

Ms. Berry: OK (unintelligible).

Dispatcher: We're going to send them as soon as we get a car open.

Ms. Berry: No, I need them now before he gets back.

Dispatcher: Alright. We're sending them, OK?

Ms. Berry: OK. I mean, like ...

Dispatcher: Who's the guy you're trying—who's the guy who went out?

Ms. Berry: Um, his name is Ariel Castro.

Dispatcher: OK. How old is he?

Ms. Berry: He's like 52.

Dispatcher: And, uh—

Ms. Berry: I'm Amanda Berry. I've been on the news for the last 10 years.

Dispatcher: I got—I got that, dear. (Unintelligible) And you say, what was his name again?

Ms. Berry: Uh, Ariel Castro.

Dispatcher: And is he white, black or Hispanic?

Ms. Berry: Uh, Hispanic.

Dispatcher: What's he wearing?

Ms. Berry: (Agitated) I don't know, 'cause he's not here right now. That's why I ran away.

Dispatcher: When he left, what was he wearing?

Ms. Berry: Who knows (unintelligible).

Dispatcher: The police are on their way. Talk to them when they get there.

Ms. Berry: Huh? I—OK.

Dispatcher: I told you they're on their way; talk to them when they get there, OK.

Ms. Berry: Alright. OK. Bye.

This will be interesting to follow. Like pretty much everyone I'm happy she made the break and freed her co-hostages. I wonder how many of the three brothers will make it to trial?

I suspect they will all make it to prison. How long they survive in prison is another story.

Charles Ramsay seems to be enjoying the rewards of doing the right thing. He's welcome to his 15 minutes of fame. I'm sure he's the toast of his neighborhood tonight.

The Castro brothers, I doubt they will make it much further in this world. I'd have them on suicide watch, the most annoying kind. My feeling is one will succeed and before this is over the other two will wish they had too.

As far as other prisoners doing them in, possible, but I think they will enjoy beating the crap out of them for a couple years first.

Sadly, my being inured to man''s inhumanity to his fellow beings is showing. The thing that shocked me the most was how low the housing prices in Cleveland are. Certainly that is an old run down beat up neighborhood, but wow. Even the crappiest old crack house in the deepest part of hell (Del Paso Heights) in Sacramento are over 70k, even after this economic decline. Most are well over 100k.

The Castro brothers will be "fine" in the Cuyahoga jail just like Anthony Sowell. Our (Northeast Ohio) prison system is not as hardcore as everyone seems to think it should be.

You can buy a two story house in East Cleveland or Euclid for around 10-30k.

You could have got one out in Elyria for the same amount 2 years ago. Not sure how it is now. Granted, it'd be a hundred-year-old house, but it would be big enough for a family of 4.

Much <3 for the CLE. Low cost of living, nice neighborhoods for the most part, no traffic, great restaurants, museums and theaters, three pro-sports teams. It's a well kept secret.

You forgot some stuff.

That other stuff is universal so I didn't think it needed to be stated as a feature of Cleveland. I could also say we have running water, electricity and roads.

True, "incompetent law enforcement" is pretty much universal.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the angst towards the police here.

These guys own family, who visited the house, didn't know the women were there.

I've seen the reports from neighbors complaining about strange things happening in the house, but as a home owner, I would hate to live in a world where the cops can come and search my house because the neighbors think I'm doing something strange.

I guess until we know exactly what the cops knew, I'm inclined to defer judgement until we know they had probable cause to suspect they were there.

Have you also seen the reports that state the police department says they have no record of those complaints? That's where the "angst towards the police" is coming from.
