The issue is, these weapons will be unregistered, untraceable and undetectable.

Perhaps we should crosspost this to the daily tyranny thread:

The download site for the gun plans has a notice saying that they were asked to remove the files by the Department of Defense.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a hobbyist with metalworking machine tools could always just build himself a gun from scratch anyway, right? Yes. Its laughable how simple it would be, and for the most part you don't need things like lathes/forges etc. Look up things like "four winds shotgun".

As a point of order, it's not the Department of Defense Trade Controls; it's the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. It's an organization under the State Department, and it's responsibility is ensuring that defense technology exports supports the national security in accordance with the Arms Export Control Act and the U.S. Munitions List.

It has nothing to do with the Department of Defense, and it also does not mean that the government is taking "control" of the information. It means they were asked to take it down.

They were required to remove the information under threat of incarceration and legal action. That's not 'asking' in any sense of the word.

You apparently do not understand what it means when the Justice Department "asks" you to do something; having been through a similar situation regarding something I published once, I can assure you, they ask through threat of incarceration and legal action.

DE, don't be silly. He wouldn't have taken it down if he didn't feel that there would be 'consequences' for leaving it up.

Exactly what Midgen said. The State Department coming around saying, "Hey, you know that if you put that up on the internet, there's no telling who might download that, right?" isn't telling these guys anything new. Thus, it wasn't that act, but the DoJ standing behind them tapping their billy club that motivated the new action.

Looks to me that there may already be an ITAR law about such things.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ibuted.pdf

It seems as if certain questions were asked that may not have had the right answers that would keep the law from being imposed.

Cody may not have had an option immediately available. We'll see what the future brings.

Sorry, but that doesn't cut it. The website itself characterizes it as being "asked", and makes o mention of threats of legal action. Even if there were, laws regarding the export of technology are well within the purview of the Federal government and are not "tyranny".

Yes, of course you were.

In other words, it's total fabrication based on nothing more than your own dislike of law in general.

Those files just need to be sent to some international website owners.

The US government does not control the internet, and attempting to control information like this through bullying tactics is the height of tyranny. Even if these files are lost, someone else will be inspired to do the same thing and upload it somewhere where the US government can't get at it.

No one's ever called you a liar about your police or military service, despite the glaring and frequent inaccuracies of your posts. You don't know what's happened to me in my life, I keep myself fundamentally anonymous. In fact, you just proved how much of a shit-heel you really are. I published an article with a whole bunch of economic data from the US Government. Unfortunately, I chose to use data they had not been published in BLS Reports. So, yes, ****' indeed, did the DOJ put a court order in my face forcing me to withdraw the publication and put up a retraction in the following volume of that journal.

The DOJ doesn't ask; they threaten.
