I need to think about trimming this thing on my face, so I look less like a homeless person. Before I buy a kit, anyone have any advice?

When you panhandle, do it outside a restaurant. People always have more change after eating.

A library bathroom sink makes an excellent shower, and never underestimate the value of a funny sign.

Personally I'm a trimmer person, get one of those guys with a guard on it and shave it down when it finishes your entire beer before you get a sip.

According to that graphic, I hang out between Very Trustworthy (full beard) and Threatening (unkempt homeless). It's awesome that it's so easy for one to become the other.

Although I usually refer to it as mountain man beard or my winter coat, instead of "homeless".

Go to a true old fashioned barber shop, get a haircut. Tell the barber you are new to growing a neard and need to keep it neat for work, ask him for tips. Listen, tip well, compliment him if you like the haircut. He will be looking at you, know your hair type better than we can, and should be able to give you valid clues to keeping it up. If you decide it's too much work, he'll be able to give you a great shave.

I live in Japan, so they might spike my hair like Cloud. :P My hair is almost shoulder length at this point. I haven't had a hair cut since I left the Air Force.

Most Japanese cannot grow beards worth bragging rights. You'll fit in fine.

Seems pretty rare. But the Japanese dudes that have em are pretty chill.

The best thing about a beard is that it grows back if you shave it. I suggest experimenting and if you don't like it, just shave it clean off and start over with a new beard.

That's what I was planning for my experiment.

I wonder, did Hitler ruin that mustache or did the stache ruin HIM?

The two are so linked at the quantum level you can't separate them.

Chaplin was alright. Hitler ruined it.

You've got a point there. I wish to revise and extend my remarks.
